Please send me your YM music files!

Postby rich » Fri Jun 26, 2009 3:19 pm

I know this is a bit of a strange request (given the dominance of the SNDH format), but I really need your YM files!

So if you happen to have an archive of Brainbug YM Archive before it vanished, I would much appreciate it.

The reason is that I'm helping out someone who has written a YM replay class for ActionScript3 (Flash). It is working really well at the moment and we have a lot of old classic tunes playing, including a couple of digi drum tests. But the more we can throw at it, the better it will get.

The source code will be released as open source (like all our projects) and will allow for complete YM replay on any web site (without the need for the ST Sound browser plugin!), or you can use it in your own Flash projects.

PM me here if you can help please :)

Cheers,

Rich

Not the Brainbug set - but how's about the site referred to on this page: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=16200

Plus the replacement e.zip that can't be downloaded from that site?

Tons of YM files in there.
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk

Thanks Mug, have got all of those now. Good collection. I wonder if it's better than the Brainbug one was? (I still can't believe I didn't archive that site when I had the chance!)

Someone else is bound to have archived it all at some point - hopefully ....

I have an ym archive with 2167 files. No idea where that is from. It dates from end of 1999.

Look forward to seeing it published. While I like STSound plugin there are too many users not able to listen to them. I had hoped that the people behind PlopBox or Equinox might have published a Java player but a Flash player sounds good.

Alexh: we haven't touched our YM Java player since 1999 or so, I doubt we ever update it or publish the source code.

Speaking of which, I probably don't even have the source anymore...

If you're interested I still have a zipfile with something like 2000 YM files but Leonard is probably your man for that and he probably has more to offer :)

You've just killed off one of my secret dreams! I would have rather you just hadn't said anything. Hoping was better than knowing :)

Hey guys,

From various sources I've now got a massive collection of YM files :)

Replay quality is really good so far, and hundreds of classic tunes depack and play without issue. We need to get digi drum support working properly, but after that it will be released on my site (just as we released the mod replay library).

Cheers,

Rich

Rich: on a toally different matter, what about those 3500+ disks you once got? :)

I had the disk images of 700 disks but I never found the rest. Do you plan to continue and make images of more of them? :)

I've done another 100 of them, but not carried on since that point. Maybe one day.
