Don't expect a release for around a week or so.
A harddrive crash killed most of my latest Atari stuff so I'll need to recode the shell. (Gladly my screens with effects were save :))
Your submissions were all save as I keep my mail on the servers so don't worry.
I can't promise however if i find the time to code the intro too.
I have Mr. Man's song but lost the source so let's see.
I'll try anyway.

Hi SimonSunnyboy...

No pressure, but I was just wondering, how are u getting on with the menu and intro? I'm really looking forward to seeing the finished mega-demo. What sort of timescale do you think we're looking at? All the best. :)

If you can live without the intro, Monday might be a release day. But don't we all think an intro is needed?

How about some more contribs? I haven't seen anything vom GT Turbo yet or a fixed screen from Perihelion?
Nor from Dune or other ppls who said they wanted to hurry for the "last" deadline.

Contributions sofar:
- 1 screen by Tobe
- 2 screens by SoLo2
- 1 screen by Orion
- 1 screen by Bruno Padinha
- 1 screen by Mr. Nours
- 1 screen by Perihelion (broken on real thing so if I don't get an update it will not make it)
- 1 screen by Scheme
- 2 screens by me

Additional material consists of the menu tune by Scheme and an intro tune by Mr. Man.
Menu is almost ready as well as the loader.

Intro is a large ??? though. If you want me to do it, then it will ofcourse take more time.

Definitly no deadlines anymore. It will be released when finished.
And if you think I'm too lazy or to incompetent well, then next time it's your turn to find a concept for a mega-demo, collect parts, put it together and most importantly write a menu and shell. And don't forget to erase your work 5mins before it's finished by accident to start over with half of your m68k code lost.

So any volunteers?

I wasn't serious SunnyBoy, i know it's hard to achieve this kind of projects !
You already make a great contribution to this forum, keep on coding, release the demo (with or without intro), and don't feel sorry for my stupid posts :D !

Bugs, bugs, bugs... are great coder food isn't it ?
step 1: introduce bug, step 2: fix bug, step 3: goto step 1.

Hi SimonSunnyboy,

I certainly wasn't implying you are lazy or incompetant, my apologies if it seems like I was. I'm just looking forward to seeing the end product. As far as the intro goes, IMHO we need one and we should all wait until you are ready. I don't want you to think I'm putting you under any pressure, I appreciate the work you're putting into this project, and the trauma of losing all your code :(

Wow, of course, we are fuc... late, the screen was close to completion last time i've checked but as i know GT Turbo is stuck deep in administrative stuff by the time.

I'll warn him about as soon as possible.
Was known as Ozone-design in Cerebral Vortex back in the good ol'years

Postby Perihelion » Mon May 24, 2004 12:09 pm

ehm, from one slacker to another sunnyboy, take your time :)
And I totally understand that you'll ditch my screen if I don't remake it, so no hard feelings at all (this goes without saying but in text based communication it's sometimes best to overstate things rather than the reverse)

I'll try to find some energy somewhere ... or just drop the part that doesen't work, but that'll loose the concept.

No offense taken, really - I just wanted to make clear ;)

@Perihelion:
Well I personally think it is pointless to have a demo running on emulators and not on the real thing. I do not blame you but I'd like to see it working on a real one. Really as your effect was quite nice :)
Perhaps you have some other source that proves to work if you can't fix it?

At least, the menu code is ready now (hopefully) and I'll begin the intro tonight.
Actually fancier then the first versions so things turned out to be not that worse after all.
Though I'm doing daily backups of my Atari stuff from now on!

Stay tuned!

I agree that it must work on the real hardware, otherwise it's nothing. (besides, that was stated in the rules of engagement)

I can't figure out what's wrong, especially so since it did work on the real thing once ... and I can't recall making any changes to the part that I suspect is the faulty one ...

we'll see how it goes :)

Considering my parts, no more help required. I'll have a week of holiday now and I plan to finish the intro and the loader on my 1040 at home.
So if you want to do someting, contribute yet another part :)

I think I asked it before, but
can not remember any reply.

I think it is a good idea, if
you sent a copy of the Demo
to the participants, a few days
before doing the release.

This way we can assure every
participant is happy with the
result. As a whole.

Thanks,
SoLo2

It also gives a little more "united
group" feeling.

I fear spreading before the official release then.
And I do not like that at all. Anyway if I send you a preview, it won't change much as I won't recode all the lot again just because one man thinks the whole result is not perfect.
It certainly won't be perfect at all. Mainly due to the fact the 90% of the ppl coding on this demo cannot be considered to be oldschool demo professionals.
Anyway the Atari-Forum demo was never meant to give a perfect demo back. It is for the fun - for doing a joint project. Contributing for the fun and not to beat another demo or so.
If that wasn't clear in the initial discussion several months ago and then I'm sorry.

It was quite clear simon, and I agree.
Respect to you for keeping the intentions clear and the path straight.
I'm just curious to see the thing finnished!

I just wanted to feel
differentiated from the
users "a posteriori".

But I suppose all the
job has been yours.

BTW., if you think it
could be spread
beforehand, then I
can believe you not
to release until the
end.

Greetings,
SoLo2

The Atari Forum Demo is finally nearing completion.
I plan release next week.
As there are still around 200K of disk space left, anyone who wants to hand in a "last minute contrib" is welcome.
I'm waiting for Scheme to send me the menu tune (*hint hint*) and for fixed parts.

@Perihelion: Did you manage to fix your part?
I'll need to drop it if not as "running on real thing" was a definit requirement ;)

Looks good sofar!
At this point a big thank you to all who have contributed sofar!
