ST IDE INTERFACE

Postby exxos » Thu Oct 07, 2004 5:20 pm

HI all,

Somewhere I was looking at a page which had the wires soldered form the IDE cable to the blitter chip area on the STFM. I dont think there was anything IC's involved but can't remember, I've seen a couple of similar ones which use 3 IC's on the ribbom cable.

Does anyone have any ideas on this ? I would be very interested in connecting to the blitter area for a internal IDE drive! if anyone has link me back up with such pages then that would be great!

The blitter has nothing to do with IDE.

That said, I think the person did it because it was easy. Most of the adress & datalines needed to connect the IDE drive to ST is available to the blitter.

Basically, the IDE interface is pretty simple.

The IDE devices map into the memory as any other device would, so the logic needed to connect the drive to the ST is mostly adress decoding.

Yeah id like to look into the IDE interface, putting it around the blitter sounds a interesting option ( for me anyway) I dont know the address to what the IDE is supposed to but put, but there no point working it all out when its already been sorted a long time ago, just need to find the info!

I dont want to use a GAL since I dont have a gal programmer, I'm sure theres one done with descrete logic somewhere ? just need to find it, maybe the sites are no longer there :(

All the info you need. You should be able to derive the standard logic needed to make the interface from the info there.

No need for a GAL, although it makes a smaller board. :)
