If you have an adaptor to ide you could use it.

Finding an IDE adaptor for an Atari would be extremely difficult these days. Atari's were built in the days when SCSI 1 was popular. So for an STFM model you would need an external SCSI 1 or 2 hard drive with a host controller to let the Atari talk to the drive. An external SCSI hard drive made for a PC will not work on the Atari. Also you'd need a lead to plug into the hard drive port on the back of the computer.

Atari specific hard drives can be found on Ebay. Atari's own brand of hd were SCSI 1 and used RLL/MFM drives which were typically 60mb in size or less. Other third party manufacturers made hd's for the Atari and take the SCSI 2 type drives (50 pin) which are better, faster and have more megabytes. Any SCSI 2 type hard drive can be put into one of these external boxes but they have to be 1 gigabyte or less for the Atari to run it.

Paul.

Cheers

there is the diy version i think is easily made using just a gal
you can ask the local electronics store to program it for you
or build a simple programer

as a project ill try to source and colate all needed info and make a small project based around a single sided pcb and a single chip
i had most of it together and had to switch provider ending my massive net space boho

pitty we cant get these guys with things like the icd version to release there code blocks as freeware
