Atari Test Cart

Postby airamcruz » Wed Nov 28, 2018 5:21 pm

Hello everybody, I'm new to this forum, this is my first post.

I'm trying to make my own Atari Test Cart with this board: https://easyeda.com/nplanel/Atari_ST_Cartridge-10329107c6f942e78c3bfcc8d2efa9a8 and two 27C128 rom chips.
I got from the internet two binary files named ST4_4.HGH and ST4_4.LOW and burnt them into the roms:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1rTerv_4P6-uOwwgt_Y8s3v9-n9pNK9TK

When plugged into any of my STs this screen appears:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1aKm3VgghB68mPXBB22nBHGS_RDdJtbB8

This is the cart:
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1uLbD5P4Z30hmzyLvJw40v3FV6NpxA8Bq

Any ideas what's wrong???

Thank you very much

The image of the cartridge you created shows the rom chips UV erase glass panels not covered. These need to be covered before you program them.

Thanks for the replies...

You need two 27C256 Eproms ...

I bought mine from https://easyeda.com/nplanel/Atari_ST_Cartridge-10329107c6f942e78c3bfcc8d2efa9a8 wich tells you that you need 27C128 roms. Anyway, each dump is 32 kB. There is plenty of room in a 128 kB rom for 32 kB.

I've tried with the windows covered and uncovered, same result.

Sorry
I got it wrong. the 27C128 eproms are 128 Kb = 16 KB and I need 256 Kb = 32 KB.

Thanks you very much frank.lukas

Maybe you should have looked at the datasheet instead. A 27C128 EPROM is 128 kBIT, i.e. 16 kByte. There's not enough room for 32 kByte in a 16 kByte EPROM, obviously. Frank is right.

It's rather funny that the wrong schematic that you found somewhere online (at easyeda) specifically mentions http://gossuin.be/index.php/archives/27 ... t-atari-st, where the correct EPROM type is given: "2 x EPROM 27C256".

Also note that with the PCB that you ordered you cannot simply exchange the EPROMs. The schematic and layout don't fit for 27C256 EPROMs. So the thing is basically useless, I'm afraid.

Your PCB can be work with the two 27C256 when ...

LDS = Eprom Lo = Eprom Pin 22
UDS = Eprom Hi = Eprom Pin 22
ROM3 = n.c.
ROM4 = both Eproms Pin 20

No, it won't, unless he also connects EPROM pin 27 to the appropriate address line on the cartridge port. Pin 27 is connected to Vcc on the PCB which is simply wrong for the required 27C256. I wonder why the creator seemingly never tested his board himself.

Why use uv eproms anyway? Just buy flash eproms eg. AT29C256 and you'll be able to reuse them...
or buy one of my multicarts ;)

Eprom

Pin
1 = VCC
2 = A13
3 = A8
4 = A7
5 = A6
6 = A5
7 = A4
8 = A3
9 = A2
10 = A1
11 = Eprom LO = D0 / Eprom HI = D8
12 = Eprom LO = D1 / Eprom HI = D9
13 = Eprom LO = D2 / Eprom HI = D10
14 = GND

15 = Eprom LO = D3 / Eprom HI = D11
16 = Eprom LO = D4 / Eprom HI = D12
17 = Eprom LO = D5 / Eprom HI = D13
18 = Eprom LO = D6 / Eprom HI = D14
19 = Eprom LO = D7 / Eprom HI = D15
20 = both Eproms ROM4
21 = A11
22 = LO Eprom = LDS - HI Eprom = UDS
23 = A12
24 = A10
25 = A9
26 = A14
27 = A15
28 = VCC

This work with 27C256 for all ST/STE/MSTE/TT Testmodule. Falcon cart do not work with it.

Falcon Cart is 128kB, and it needs ROM4 to be the most significant bit of the Address Bus.

I've got on of the 64kB slot only multicatrs, and I thing it would be great if someone would convert SysInfo and YAART that they could be run from this cartridge it has exactly 2 slots free (actually 8 + 2, because it uses 2x 4Mb EPROMs, and A18 is hard tight to GND wasting 1/2 of EPROM space).

Thanks to all,

As I said before, I was wrong about the size of the eproms. I'm waiting for two 27C256 to arrive and I will come back to tell what's what.
I've noticed that this cartridge is not the same as the one at http://gossuin.be/index.php/archives/27%20...%20t-atari-st
While you must insert this cartridge with the roms facing down, on mine you have to place them facing up.
