troed wrote:So while not as awesome as this trick, since it requires an extensive hardware upgrade, some of you might recall the doubleST video modes I documented here: https://blog.troed.se/projects/atari-st ... deo-modes/

Combining that upgrade with this trick will result in:

320x400x16
640x400x4

(and 2560x200x2, but let's just forget how ludicrous that would be;))

Unfortunately, there are no vertical borders that can be opened with the GLUE in high res so the tantalizing 640x480x4 cannot be done.

2560x200x2.... UltraMegaWide!
Atari 8Bits: 800xl, 600xl, XEGS, 800, 130xe, 130xe (VBXE, U1MB, Stereo POKEY)
Atari STs: 1040STf (broken shifter), 1040STe, Mega STe, TT030, Falcon (CT60e, SuperVidel)

In practice, that's a chunky grayscale 320x200. Awesome.

Did you have a chance to test it? Is it messing with SYNC?

No time yet, but I think you're right in that a switch to avoid mono hsync will be needed.

You probably mean to avoid a COLOR (not mono) hsync. Not sure how good it would work. You probably might be able to avoid the COLOR hsync, but you will have a couple of problems. You would still run a few cycles with GLUE in mono during active display and then with BLANK asserted. Also the switch might destabilize SHIFTER.

You might be able to get along with a reduced width screen, shifted to the left, before the COLOR HSYNC position.

Yeah, sorry, exactly :) I calculated how far into the screen that black area would be and it was substantial.

I would need to check the GLUE/MMU combo schematics to see what happens if you use a resolution with value = 3. On GLUE ST it wouldn't help, it considers this the same as 2 (mono).

Btw, and sorry for going a little off topic, Smonson told me about your reset problem with his FPGA board. It is surely that the CPU is reading the wrong resolution value from the FPGA.

Will there be any application that activates this resolution? Is it easily usable?

Thanks for the help.
I have arrived late to this post and with the difficulty of the language I miss some obvious aspects.

This is a patched version of (or rather horribly hacked version of the horribly hacked) Overscan 1.6, that usually is a driver for HW overscan resolutions.
...

Have fun, source included, remember, horrible, horrible, horrible hack. Someone with even the first clue of AES/VDI is welcome to do a better one.
Or send me compilable sources of newer Overscan or of a Lacescan version.

Somehow I missed this earlier, but yes, lacescan sources are available.

So please post those sources and the hardware schematics for it.
I'd like to see if it's usefull for me.
And the compiled usable version would also be a great plus. :D

Well, all info you need, including binaries, schematics, can be found here: http://www.atariancomputing.com/blog/ov ... icsupgrade or at http://atari4ever.free.fr/#video

Sadly he is sold out, but with enough interest, maybe Gaiyan can be talked into another run.

As for a public release of the LaceScan sources, I'll have to talk to Uran, the author. He graciously let Marcer preserve all of his stuff when he left the scene and he is a really nice chap, so I don't think he would mind, but the polite way is to ask first, especially since we're friends and I still talk to him from time to time.

I hope it wont destroy your friendship with him ;) but his sources are public for ages already. If I'm not mistaken, these two: https://github.com/ggnkua/Atari_ST_Sour ... n/LACE_EMU and https://github.com/ggnkua/Atari_ST_Sour ... on/LACE_TT are what the guys are looking for.

Ah, then Marcer already talked to him.

IIRC thats only partially true, this misses/did miss all framework/include files - that‘s why I had to go the Overscan driver route (it compiled after all) for the quick hack I targeted. Hence the request for -compilable- Lacescan sources in that post, should probably made that clearer.

So anyone able to get the full source is more than welcome to help out.

Did you search the whole archive? The sources are not always in correct folder structure so there is a chance that some includes are scattered all over the place. I remember compiling something else from him and had to find the files this way.

Sure, searched ofc that and also ggns whole repo. Did not find the first few filenames and gave up, but since it had to go quick, I might‘ve missed something. Again, any specifc hints are welcome.

No, you didn't miss anything. His standard library is missing, and it makes pretty much all of his sources hard to compile I'm afraid.

I'll look around for it, I know I have it.

Found it. This should 'unlock' most, if not all, of his sources.
