Wall-Mounting a Falcon

Postby displaced » Tue May 22, 2018 12:22 am

Bit of an odd query this, but someone might have a good idea!

I don't have any desk space I can dedicate to my Falcon or STFM. But I don't want to send them back up into the loft, not to be seen or used for another 20 years!

What I *do* have is a nice bit of wall on the side of the chimney stack that's almost the exact depth of the ST/Falcon case.

So I'm thinking it'd be cool to have something that'll mount the Falcon sideways on the wall, but still make it easy to slide it out so I can hook it up on a desk when desired.

I'm eyeing up something like this or this. The latter looks safer due to the strap, bearing in mind that the machine will be sat on its edge.

Anyone done anything similar with any success?

Cheers,
Chris

Could you put it in a keyboard draw under the desktop?

If only it were that simple!

The desk is a fold-down thing, so no keyboard drawer!

James Boulton aka SainT/RetroHQ recently did a nice job on the wall of his den. Not quite what you had in mind but :

Thanks, alexh. I'm getting a 'Sorry, content not available' error on that FB link -- but I'm guessing it's one of those 'take everything out the case and hang the parts on the wall' jobs?

I'm actually thinking of doing that with my STFM. Give the motherboard a thorough clean, fit a modern PSU, find a clean-looking floppy drive, bolt the whole lot to some illuminated perspex and hang the whole lot on the wall.

But not for the Falcon -- she's staying 100% mint and original (ok, apart from the slimline floppy-drive/SD card combo thing I put together for the drive bay, and the exxos coin-battery RTC fix).

You could try something like this

Image
Atari Falcon Tos 4.04 | 14mb | IDE CF 2GB
Atari STE Tos 1.62 | 4mb | HxC Slim SD 8GB
Atari STE Tos 1.62/2.06 | 4mb | Floppy A-B Mod | IDE SD 4GB
Atari STFM
Android Devices (Running Hataroid and SToid)

Nice. But would there still be space for the IDE-to-SD adapter? :)

Wow very nice.
Where can I get those wooden branch looking computer brackets?
I guess some hot glue is needed to fix the Falc to the branch, I don't think there's any screw holes at that angle on the case.

And why not install the user on the wall ?, the Falcon 030 is more important.

Yeah tasteful and relatively narrow. You can grab anything you like and plug it in in moments
