Sony Optical MO Disk Drive on Atari

Postby AtariSociety » Mon Mar 19, 2018 10:28 pm

Found something peculiar in my stash of Atari goods I acquired years ago. I been slowly going through it. Not sure where the previous owner got it all from but think it was from an dealer that went out of business. So in the stash was a SCSI Sony MO Disk Drive P301. Not much info online but appears to be a 128MB optical drive. No idea if this reseller sold as an Atari solution but appears may have been the case.

I have no carts so have not done anything with it. Unsure if I will invest in one to see if it works. It is internal so I would have to find a case anyway. But looks cool and for 1992 vintage, may have been high end tech for the time.

Anyone here ever use such a device? and on an Atari?

Competition to ZIP drives etc, etc. From what I remember they were supposed to be pretty fast, comparatively. It should work like any other SCSI removable disk medium.

Sounds like a nice setup. Something about the sound of a syquest or similar drive I enjoy... don't know why. :D

Should be a SCSI storage device, most 50pin SCSI storage devices can be used on the Atari.
It will look like a HDD to the Atari, and may loss removal-able media capability (may hddriver can help).
My Stuff: FB/Falcon CT63/CTPCI+ATI+RTL8139+USB 512MB 30GB HDD CF HxC_SD/ TT030 68882 4+32MB 520MB Nova/ 520STFM 4MB Tos206 SCSI
Shared SCSI Bus:ScsiLink ethernet, 9GB HDD,SD-reader @ http://phsw.atari.org
