I'd be willing to beta test the driver on my 1040STe. Just waiting on the delivery of my Netusbee.
Have you played Atari Today?

Also will it work with recently released Geneva and NeoDesk?

I'll call for beta testers in the next few days. Hopefully someone can test.

The beta driver is ready! Send me a private message if you wish to test it. If you already showed interest in testing, you don't need to, I'll send it to you.

What you need:
NetUSBee with USB ports.

What to expect:
USB mass storage working on Atari ST, Atari Falcon 030, CT60/CT63 Falcon (use without USB accessory), TT (not tested).
TOS and EmuTOS working. MagiC not working. TOS 1.04 may be minimum required.
Support for powered USB hub (optional, you can directly hook your USB device in the NetUSBee).
Hot-plugging, you can insert and remove devices when the USB accessory is installed.

Your USB key should work like a hard disk drive. Search or ask the forum if you have questions about partitioning, BigDOS, using hard disk utilities, etc.
Speed: 68000: 32 kB/S, 68030, 113 kB/S, 060, 400-500 kB/S. These should be improved later.

There is also a mouse driver, but my USB mice don't work with it or crash.

Great!!!
I'm looking forward seeing the code, this driver not working reliable got me so frustrated, I'm really curious to see how you have fixed it.

It was all about the chip delays, the 300ns and 150ns, and a few other changes that may not be relevant. It looks like you just fixed it for FreeMint, when you started to use UDELAY. Later, I can set up FreeMint and test it. For TOS, I could not use the Freemint delay function, Roger suggested I use the EmuTOS delay routines, which he explained to me and I implemented.

I need to clean up my code, after I can send it to you, it should work with FreeMint too, maybe you can then commit it.

Beta testers report the driver working well on ST, Falcon 030, TT and Falcon CT63. The driver should be made public soon.

USB storage transfer rates according to Xferrate:
ST: 31 kb/s
Falcon: 110 kb/s
TT: 150 kb/s
Falcon CT63: 300 kb/s

The ST speed should be improved later. There may be a glitch on the CT63 where hot-plugging doesn't work and USB.ACC must be disabled. To be investigated later.

TOS and EmuTOS supported for mass storage. Next step, MagiC, if I can.

I'm wondering if it's a bus timing issue as it doesn't work on many TTs. On mine the first test program (which reads only) crashes out with bus error after a random number of test iterations and seemingly writing to the device (using read) fails too. That could also be the bus voltage levels not being high enough for the NE chip to read it reliably.

I wonder if a bus buffer card might be something feasible to create to isolate the system bus from the cartridge port.

Could you please test with your TT the driver attached in this post?:

What's the difference between this driver and the recent storage driver?

Format it with a PC (FAT16) and use BIGDOS on your Atari.

You're not getting fat16 from DiskUtil GUI. However, you can do it from Terminal:

Code: Select all

diskutil partitionDisk /dev/diskX MBR "MS-DOS FAT16" "ATARI1" 25% "MS-DOS FAT16" "ATARI2" 25% "MS-DOS FAT16" "ATARI3" 25% "MS-DOS FAT16" "ATARI4" 25%

(Replace diskX with your device, make sure you know you're doing the right one, and edit for the number of partitions you want. The above line makes four equal sized partitions)

The driver linked above is not a storage driver is a NetUSBee driver. To use USB you need two kind of drivers, the driver for your USB hardware (NetUSBee, EtherNAT, Lightning VME or a PCI USB card) and the USB device driver (mass storage, mouse, etc...).
