Falcon Tower case anyone?

Postby FatRakoon » Sat Sep 09, 2017 12:40 am

Does anyone have a Tower case for the Falcon for sale?

Depending on what you have, and what it is, I am definitely up for one?

I do have a 2U Rack mount case for my ST thats been dumped in the garden and the shed and then back in the garden, and then in something that seems to attract rust like a magnet, and its in dire need of emery cloth and powder coating it again to get it back to looking good, but Im lazy and might not bother, or I might just biuld a whole new one... Again, if I can be bothered.

Similarly, I might be tempted to do a number of things, but Im not going to lie... Im bone idle and would rather just buy one...For a fair price!

Anyone have something they can part with... Again, for a fair price... Fair price being in both directions of course!

There is a picture of it in the blog I made when it came to me. I could make some more if you were really interested.

http://atari-falcons.blogspot.co.uk/2010/03/scuzzy.html

It's not a particularly nice case. Certainly not nice like a modern PC case. You can find reviews of this case in the old Atari Press. It's like a suitcase. Opens in the middle.

This is not my case but here is one selling 4 years ago for €100 on Amibay

http://www.amibay.com/showthread.php?54767

I'm in Didcot in South Oxfordshire about a 40 min drive from South Wales.

It currently has a Falcon 030 motherboard in it and I don't have the original case for it.

I'd want a regular Atari Falcon 030 desktop case either as a sale or in part ex.

If that is possible then cool. If you don't want to swap your original case I understand.

Hi Alexh

Yes, that thread you opened, I was also part of it too! - As you see, things have deleoped.

I am absolutely interested, of course I am, but, if you can understand, the loss of my original case will be a huge issue, for 2 huge reasons.

1 - What if the tower IS as bad as that post suggests, and its not good enough for me.
2 - The Falcons original case, Oh come on!

Now, I will admit, that My plan is, that once its in a case... Job done. I wont need the original, but what if I do change my mind?

Ok, lets look at the reality of the options then, since I will have to let my case go...

first off, how much are we asking?

Also, would you consider posting the Tower, and letting me play with it for a few days, maybe a week, before deciding if its good for me?

You offered, and so yes, I would definitely like to have more pictures.

The other issue I do have, is the CT PCI. Now, in saying that, I no longer have the BIOS in the CT63 to support it and its gone back to basics to get it to play 100% nicely and so its possible, that I may not need it... plus, I am really hoping to get a SuperVidel instead, but who knows?

Ah, I dont know...

Lets talk numbers then and gimme a few pics to help me decide, and we will take it from there.

Been talking to the wife about this.

You know how you kind of answer your own questions when you think you are being a fool.

Right, here is a few facts that I need to address...

1 - The top of my Falcons case is over there... Nowhere near the Falcon.
This is because, I am using a CT63 that wont let me use the shield ,and an ATX PSU, and at the time the CTPCI, and these made the Falcon too big to fit under the top of the case.

2 - Am I going to use the CTPCI again
No intention of it right now, but, almost definitely yes, in the future.
So, whether I have that tower off you, or I stick with the original case, I cannot use the CTPCI anyway?
The original case will be a huge bargaining point if I wanted to for a closer case for sure, but that the same time, the ONLY need I would have to the CTPCI, is the ATI Graphics and the IDE and I could simply mount the ATI card on a 90 degree riser ,and so yeah, I could get it to fit the tower. The IDE ports would not be an issue as they are cables.

3 - Keyboard
I am currently using the TT Keyboard on the Falcon and so its a non issue.
The TT is on a QWERTYX as the Qwertyx does not seem to like my Falcon... I think its that the small adapter cable does not use all the Falsons pins... This might help explain why the CT63 fails to find the keyboard yet it works fine?

So, yeah, Ill have the case off you, ( price dependant obviously ), so, let me know how much you want for it, and I will let you know right away.

I stopped using the metal shielding for so long I do not remember when.
1st happened to my STFM when i had TOS and memory mods on it (piggy back ROMS to 2 level high).
So when my low profile memory module for the falcon 14MB board was replaced by normal memory module, I had that metal shielding off without any thoughts.
Without that metal shield i can get the CT63, CTPCI and IDE HDD inside the case, with the cheese grater top on.
IIRC, I had them nicely setup once... but since nowadays I rotate my Atari hardware, I don't bother to fit them nicely in any more.

Ah, the RAM that I am using in my CT63 is a big one. I got a ton of other sticks that do fit and are smaller for sure, but righjt now, thats the stick that Rodolfe left in it and it has passed all tests with flying colours so its staying. It does NOT let me use the original case.

That said... Sure, I could fit the CTPCI under the case, I absolutely could, but not if I have anything connected to it.

I still have the metal shield for what its worth, but as you did, I took mine off years ago. Never bothered since, and its a bit worse for wear, so it could do with being straightened out, but apart from that, its fine.

I'll try and take some photos over the weekend. That is assuming it is under the bed in the spare room rather than in the Attic.

I am stil lwaiting to hear from you mate?

Do you still have it?
Do you have pictures?
We have not yet spoken about price?

I am still definitely in need of a case and I might build on still, but if you have a Tower, then as long as it will fit my Falcon + cT63 + bits, then Im definitely interested in it.

I still have it. It has been moved from the attic to the spare room. That was a chore. I am 5 days into 10 days away at the moment. Back home on Sunday 8th.
