Help to make 13 pin din to VGA

Okay so I'm using a very old CRT display as a monitor simply using the RF output. Not only is this taking up much room but
I already have a VGA monitor sitting next to it which I might as well try and use.

I have a VGA TO VGA cable which I will happily cut one end off and solder up a 13 pin din plug to work with the ST/STE

Can some one help me with the pin outs please



I think that's the correct pin numbers per plug are there any resistors involved.

I assume you realize that the VGA monitor will not be able to display anything but ST-High when connected to the STE, i.e., it will act like a mono monitor.

Oh I didn't realise that might not work out so great
Would it be better to go Scart or Phono ?

It depends on what monitors and TVs you plan/want to connect your Atari to. If your VGA monitor is a multi-sync monitor that can handle the lower horizontal sync frequency (15.75 kHz) you can create a VGA cable for the Atari ST(E) also for ST Low and ST Medium resolutions. If your TV has a SCART connector with support for RGB, you can create or buy an RGB SCART cable. Greenious provided a link to a page with some great information if you want to build one yourself.

If you have a multi-sync monitor it will make it possible to display all 3 ST resolutions (Low/Med/Hi) without changing cables or monitors.

you NEED to check if your monitor can display ST LOW before you buy/make any cables. it's very rare that a recent monitor show the low values that an Atari sends out.

What VGA monitor do you have?

FYI with the exception of the ground pin the spacing of the other pins of that 13 pin din is the same as perforated experimenters board while the rest is the same as a MIDI plug, so if you have the necessary skill and components at hand you can knock one together yourself....otherwise I would recommend just ordering what you need.

I have a few VGA monitors I could use, some modern and a few older type 10 years or more.
