I suppose all home micro computers destined for the UK in the 1980s had RF modulators in them. I've never seen a home micro without one, until I got my Mega STE last year from France. So because my three 4160STE are all UK models, it means they were guaranteed to have RF in them and they do.

This is interesting information because I have seen many many STE and NONE of them had an RF modulator.
The problem is that there is no identification, like it used to be with the STf, to find out if an STE has an RF or not.
So it looks like I need to buy an STE from UK. :(

I never even consider the fact that machines were shipped without modulators to other countries. I had always made the assumption that different modulators would be fitted according to country (NTSC and the various PAL formats). All comes down to cost I guess.
Mega"SST" 12, MegaSTE, STE: Desktopper case, IDE interface, UltraSatan (8GB + 512Mb) + HXC floppy emulator. Plus some STE's/STFM's

I also order GBS-8200 v4.

and regarding TV (RF) modulator: here in Serbia almost all Atari ST(e) that you can buy now have RF.
using Atari since 1986.http://wet.atari.orghttp://milan.kovac.cc/atari/software/ ・ Atari Falcon030/CT63/SV ・ Atari STe ・ Atari Mega4/MegaFile30/SM124 ・ Amiga 1200/PPC ・ Amiga 500 ・ C64 ・ ZX Spectrum ・ RPi ・ MagiC! ・ MiNT 1.18 ・ OS X

Just got a message in my Ebay inbox to say my item will be sent on January 31st, so that means I will get it around late February, early March.

This is great. But will this work with an Atari without RF modulator?

Testing on 1040STE, and 1040 STF, but perhaps working with all model..will see..
in to 1-2 min a start new thread .

Not much interested to know if STE or STF but if have or not RF modulator has this change completely pin 2 sync signal
From other thread looks like STE in UK always have RF modulator but in France they never have it!
If starting new thread please post link

Then it should work with GBS-8200 ;)
Unfortunately if you do not have RF output it seems like there is no solution. if you look here http://info-coach.fr/atari/hardware/vid ... -schematic you will see that the pin 2 in machine with RF modulator uses c video output from MC1377. Without this circuit the composite signal is just combination of vsync hsync and is not good for GBS-8200
I guess my only chance would be to buy an STE machine from UK :(

Yes why not.. i think the new schematic & mod working for all ST,s haves 13pin video out..
There are so many that can cause the unsynchronized signal of this converter ..
From the time stress of electronic materials for each ST,
as well as factory material fault of the converter read the my new topic :http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=22668
Finally I hope you find a STE, is remarkable and powerful machine.
