I downloaded and looked at your guide...it is excellent!!

Having said that, I'm having problems.
First off, I'm using HDDriver 8.11...don't know if that is the issue or not.
I'm using a 128mb mmc card.
I'm able to do everything according to your guide, however,it doesn't seem to stick, because when I reboot after making sure hddriver.sys was installed, the mste will not but from the card.
What I want to know is, am I wrong in assuming that we're supposed to be able to boot from card 1?
If so, what could I have done wrong...this is making me lose what I've left of my hair!! 8O 8O

Okay, I switched out the 128mb mmc and am using a 64mb sd card...works perfect!!

Ok glad that worked. Certain types of cards would be problematic with the original SatanDisk but worked OK in the UltraSatan.

Doesn't seem to like micro sd either. So I'm gonna stick with regular sd cards 512mb and below!

I use a 256mb as my boot SD card and a 512mb in the second drive.

Last night I tried a Sandisk 256mb (2 of them actually) and although I could prep them with hddriver, and even install Magic 5, I cannot boot from either of them, so strange!

When I copied the contents of the sandisk over to a Kingston 64mb that I'd been using, the MSTE boots perfectly fine!! :(

Any ideas?

Thanks

Is anyone else using P. Putnik's Ultrasatan driver? I made a quick video where I format a card and use it with the PC:

try to partition to 255MB then they will work and boot seems you actually need to partition raw disks dont work
if you use v9 hddriver im not sure there isnt a bug still
your the third person with small cards thats had issues

look to uwes forum perhaps some others can help
also as many say using like hexedit or other apps
write zeros to the whole card
and unplug it before windows takes it prisoner.... and writes a fat partition block

Thank you Mug UK, for your wonderful guide but since I am completely new to Atari ST's I lack some informations.
Since March 2014 I am owner of a SatanDisk but I could'nt do anything with it yet.
Every attempt to transfer a SD card image to any of my SD cards was unsuccessful because no guide mentioned to erase the SD cards with diskpart.
I found this out a few days ago (in Windows cmd as administrator, diskpart, list disk, select disk (the SD card!!), clean, exit, exit) and now I can see the firtst of some partiotions. The SD Image transfer works at last!! :D

But now the next problem. As I understand I need to prepare the first partition to get bootable for the SatanDisk and therefore I would need the HDDRIVER.PRG on floppy disk. I have some PC 1,44MB HD Disks ready to get formated but I don't have a *.ST image of HDDriver.
Can someone please upload a ready to use *.ST floppy disk image with all needed files to get the SD card ready to boot with the SatanDisk?
Thank you very much in advance!!

Best regards,
Striker

Hi,

Is it possible to format the SD card for PC/Mac use with ICD, or do I need to buy HDDRIVER or PP Driver?
I am using the Ultrasatan with a STE on TOS 1.62. What is the maximum size for boot and non boot partitions ?

Thanks,
Philippe

Hddriver and PP driver offer something not present in other drivers, so not in ICD too: TOS/DOS compatible partitioning. In theory, it is possible to make PC or MAC SW for that purpose, but that would be pretty much pointless.
As I know ICD driver supports DOS type partitioning, but TOS is what supports it not. Precisely, you will be able to access only partitions up to 32 MB size. What is of course out of consideration today. For larger partitions you may use BigDOS :
check on this page (around middle): http://atari.8bitchip.info/astams.php
In my opinion BigDOS is not good solution, unless you need specifically large partitions over 512 MB. Many SW will not like it.
In case of PP driver max size of partition under TOS 1.04-3.06 (so 1.62 too) is 512 MB. Same stays for boot partition.
You can test it with autobootable image: http://atari.8bitchip.info/DiskImgPP1.html
That is what you can (and need) to write on SD card with PC or MAC and USB card reader.
Famous Schrodinger's cat hypothetical experiment says that cat is dead or alive until we open box and see condition of poor animal, which deserved better logic. Cat is always in some certain state - regardless from is observer able or not to see what the state is.

Thanks. It worked great with the autobootable image.

When I got my Ultrasatan I sent PP some $ for his driver and it worked perfectly right away.... I never regretted it

However i sold that STFM+ultrasatan setup to someone, and now i use a STe with a GOTEK, works fine for me...
Do not own a ST right now

Hello,

I'm trying to make images from my 2048 ste to my pc with my ultrasatan.
I've not succeeded in reading my sd card on my pc.

I can have :
- an sd card to boot on my ste
- a second one to share with the pc, with a dedicated partition.

What is the best way to copy an st floppy to a msa (or st) file on the sd card ?

However, my pc doesn't accept my card up to now.

So, can anoyone can share the sd card config to have a partition sharing with a pc
Can i read it on : pc with xp, win7, win10 (i've kept all these laptop config)

You need a modern hard disk driver to be able to use sd cards shared with pcs.
Driver from Peter Putnik and HDDriver from Dr. Uwe Seimet are your choices...

Or....as I've mentioned so many times that I'm sure people are getting
tired of seeing it....

You could use "mtools". :)

I use Peter Putnik's HD software and it seems to do the job nicely on my ultrasatan, and Peter charges a very reasonable price. However I usually like to have more that one option but I just can't seem to justify the value of obtaining the HDDRIVER software because of what looks to be the excessive price asked.
Question is, is there any additional features / functionality in the HDDRIVER software that is not in Peter's software that would justify the high price?
