Drawing program for Atari ST

Postby jotego » Tue Apr 02, 2019 6:56 am

I want do draw a bitmap using a palette. The purpose is to use the bitmap on arcade machines. I was thinking of using the ST to draw it. Can you recommend me a drawing software? I need the output file format to be public so I can convert the file to the arcade format.

All of these will be limited to 320 x 200 x 16 colours:

DEGAS
NEOchrome
Canvas (my favourite)

Or Spectrum 512 will give you 320 x 200 x 512 colours.

You're talking about game graphics right? There is modern PC software dedicated to bitmap editing too, it'd probably be easier to convert from modern formats. But if you want Atari specifically, go right ahead :)

Advanced OCP Art Studio had some features to help in the creation of animated sprites, maps and custom bitmap fonts and can even output some data as assembler data ready for inclusion into a program. It always seemed more oriented to use alongside software development than the more common apps. It's limited to ST low-res but might be worth a look.

A comprehensive list here: http://dhs.nu/files.php?t=pixelpainter. Personally I'm something in between Deluxe Paint and Crack Art.

BTW you can also use grafx2 on modern machines, this has pi1 support: http://grafx2.chez.com/index.php?static3/downloads
is 73 Falcon patched atari games enough ? ^^
