RIEMANN algebraic calculator translated into English

Postby Moulinaie » Tue Jul 24, 2018 6:03 pm

Hi,

I have worked on RIEMANN II and translated the german RSC and most of the text included into the binary from german to english.

I have made a page to show some features of the program:

http://gtello.pagesperso-orange.fr/riemann2.htm

(page in french and english).

Guillaume.

The problem is that I do not own the rights of the program.
Is it OK to diffuse it..?

Most of all, I can't just give the English RSC, I must provide the PRG too because lots of texts are included into the binary file.

Are the authors somewhere where I can get in touch with them?

The authors have search-machine friendly names and are still located around Karlsruhe, Germany. But I doubt that the authors could tell you a lot. When translating the software, you for sure noticed the several copyright messages stating that "Soft Warehouse, Hawaii" owns larger portions of the code.

Safer than distributing the whole program would be to offer a binary patch. It offers only the changes between (original) release X and your version, and wouldn’t contain copyrighted code.

Where is the line that separates the preservation or the testimonial use (nostalgic) of an old software for machines discontinued?
I do not think anyone is going to use that program professionally in 2018 or going to make money with it, and I understand that copyrights are indisputable in spite of those conditions, but maybe we have any excess of puritanism.
The authors of the software should be happy because people use it in 2018, it is a toast to their memory and it will not hurt their economy.

Greetings.

According to some Dr G, Soft Warehouse was acquired by Texas Instruments,
After seeing that I did not search further as I think TI will want to maintain control and copyrights over it.

As texas uses DERIVE on their calculators, I think that they aquired RIEMANN to own every source code because RIEMANN and DERIVE are based on the same original muMATH program.

Hi again,

I worked on the TeX output and modified some things as you can see at the bottom of my page:

http://gtello.pagesperso-orange.fr/riemann2.htm

I was able to export a TeX file and compile it directly on the Atari with C-TeX.
In order to achieve that, you need the modified PRTEX.RIE (I added two more calls).

Those who asked for the RIEMANN package can ask again for the modified PRTEX.RIE.

And again, I can even send the C-TeX totally installed.
