Is it possible to extract the files from a STX file ? If yes, how ?

Mount it as a disk image under the PASTI options under STEEM's Disk Manager.

You can then, if there are files within the STX image, you can copy them onto a blank disk image in the other drive and/or onto an emulated hard-drive image/path.
My main site: http://www.mug-uk.co.uk - slowly digging up the bits from my past (and re-working a few): Atari ST, Sega 8-bit (game hacks) and NDS (Music ripping guide).

I develop a free Word (for Windows) add-in that's available for Word 2007 upwards. It's a fix-it toolbox that will allow power Word users to fix document errors. You can find it at: http://www.mikestoolbox.co.uk

Do you mean directly on the PC? Without emulation?

With emulation is rather easy as Muguk is saying. Just boot from a GEMDOS hard disk. Only later mount the STX image. And from the dekstop, or with whatever ST tool you like, copy the files from the floppy to the hard disk (that is directly mapped to a PC folder).

If I understand well, I must copy the STX image on a floppy disk 720 Ko, then with PASTI.PRG copy the files on a HDD GEMDOS. Right ?

I have just a problem my STX image is bigger than 720Ko and cannot be copied on a DD Floppy.

No... STEEM is an ST Emulator for Windows. And PASTI is an enhancement for STEEM emulator to handle STX images.

So with STEEM plus PASTI you can open STX images in STEEM. And like on normal ST computer you can copy files or whole disks from one (virtual!) drive to another.

But... STX images are often special. Because instead *.ST and *.MSA disk images STX images also contain copy protected datas which can not be transfered to ST and MSA images as these don't support non standard formats. It's also not possible to transfer STX images to real disks. For copy protected software STX is a working solution just inside STEEM, but it's a one way solution.

Unfortunatelly there is no documentation on how STX format works.

Somebody reminded me that there is a program by Ppera for handling STX Pasti images directly on Windows without emulation. I'm not familiar with that software, so I cannot provide much details about it.

In the included txt file of PastInf it says: ".....program for creating textual info file or extracting some track data from STX file...".

It will help you to examine an STX file, but it will not do anything else.

Probably because that is not the program we are talking about. There should be other program on his site.

I cannot find any other downloadable file over there than this one:
http://atari.8bitchip.info/PastiInf.zip

Which "other program" might it be we are talking about?

Propable Pasti is disabled on Steem configuration.

Start Steem's Disk Manager. Then enable "Use Pasti" at the Disk Manager Options menu.
