MagiC 6.20

Postby calimero » Mon May 10, 2010 6:59 am

Hi,

for quite some time I am searching for MagiC 6.2 but without luck.

Only today I realized that 6.2 is free upgrade but from 6.1 version :( and I have 6.0 :evil:

Can somebody pass my 6.1? This version that I have, 6.0, is totally unstable! I try it both on my new TT (from Alexander BoNuS ;)) and on Falcon and it will crash on MagixDesk randomly (when starting programs, copying... it looks like disk activity or memory allocation cause crash). So I hope that newer version of MagiC will fix this :)

please help.

I have MagiC v6.2 on my Marcer DVD/CD but not installed it yet, plus it might be in German. I think last year I asked Fat Rakoon for help with this, maybe to use an older version RSC file to get English. I cannot quite remember but I will be attempting my first MagiC install ever tomorrow all being well. I will also be attempting to use my new Hydra ethernet interface at the same time, so a big learning curve all round for me at the moment! :lol:

ok, here it is MagiC 6.20

http://atari.kovac.cc/MAGIC62A.zip
http://atari.kovac.cc/MAGIC62B.zip

there (in first zip) is also vectronix info file with SN inside.
Unpack both ZIP in same folder and install.
There is two ZIP so you can easily transfer files to Atari over HD floppy.

btw soon there will be more Atari stuff at http://atari.kovac.cc

Thanx Shredder11!

I must say that MagiC 6.0 crashes all the time both on F030 and on TT (on random basis :D)!

Now, 6.20 did not crash not once for whole day :D (to be honest, it did when I change resolution on TT)

yes, I did.... it killed my HDD.... I think it over wrote the boot sector, FAT etc because I cannot recover anything from it.
So much so that I am keeping my distance from it now.

if you get a stuck hdd maybe the 'master boot record' or MBR has been overwritten

to restore it you need a windows boot disk and a pc
insert the bootfloppy systemdisk
{you can download a floppy image from many places for these tools and boot media even on cdrom like pebart etc}
using FDISK

and with the hdd connected to the pc as a master and the only drive except the cdrom

type FDISK /MBR and this will restore the factory default drive mapping tables etc to the platter
now reboot and your drive magicaly allows access again
usefull for all ide drives
then i use WIPEHDD.exe a small dos program that writes all zeros too all other areas {its quite a fast tool}

then check it in dos using CHKDSK

to find the commands a dos tool uses just type /? example fdisk /?
however /mbr is not documented as an fdisk switch and is only usefull upto dos 6.2 and windows 95 98 or me have the right version of fdisk.exe as this switch was removed after windows 2000

other than this if you can image the hdd atall im sure someone can fix the partition table entries pretty easily

hddriver will also allow you most often to recover the fat and partiton tables from the drive backup

Yes, it was very likely that
I was reluctant to use any fdisk on it
I also tried some other solutions that are
available on Hiren disk but all said there was nothing

(I even had access to Encase, but that's company property
and so using on my atari stuff would be frowned on)

It was certian that the MBR was written, bur I wasn't
going to use some tools that knows two toss about
Atari hdd format doing something horrible on it

Ppera tools was the best bet and it was...
