Microware OS-9 O/S for Atari ST

Postby mrnukem » Mon Sep 10, 2007 3:51 pm

OS-9 is a multitasking O/S that mainly ran on the TRS-80 Color Computers but it looks like there is an OS9-68000 version for the Atari ST made. I found it recently and thought someone here might find it interesting.

Your can find the download & documentation links here : http://coco.clubltdstudios.com/downunder/OS9-68000/

I've used OS9/Bootstrap in my school there's a long time on Atari ST. I believe that I kept my both disks somewhere...

I worked with OS9 on my CoCo.
It was my first computer. Back in the eighties, my parents spended a little fortune to that machine.

The machine itself, a printer, two diskdrives, multipack etc..

I used that machine for almost 8 years, till I bought my first 386.
Never used it on my atari's.

Mark.

Hi, I would dearly like to get the disk images listed on that link as well -- I had previously archived them, but I had a little "accident" backing up this week, and I've lost them. The site is completely gone as of Sept. 2012.

I have most important OS-9/68k dev docs as PDFs, and I have the v2.3 Cumana version of OS-9/68k but for completeness I'd like to re-obtain the "Personal OS-9" distro that used to be at http://coco.clubltdstudios.com/downunder/OS9-68000/ .

Thanks,
-Russ

I'd very much appreciate if a copy could be found of this as well. OS-9 was just about the best thing going for the Coco and it would be fun to see how the 68k version stacks up.

Folks,

OS-9 on Motorola 68000 cpus is still a supported product. A quick goggle will get you to the manufacturer's web page. Just contact 'em and ask.

Cheers,
T.

Does anyone has this archived? The URL above is 404, and archive.org shows only the directory listing, but the software archives are not covered, unfortunately: http://web.archive.org/web/200806111056 ... /OS9-68000

:D I have successfully been able to install this on to my 1040STE. Does anyone know if documentation exists - the install comes with everything needed to do development on C, but no docs. Also, does anyone know if any of the windowing systems (G-Windows, K-Windows, MGR) exist for the Atari version? In the 80 and now I used OS9 on the Tandy Color Computer, so this experience has helped in getting this up an running. I will post instructions, if anyone is interested in what I did.

OK, so the ZIP archive has some corrupted disk images, and of course it's the MGR disks. They are a window system for the Atari OS9 68K, so does anyone know where I could get uncorrupted versions of the disks. It's about half of them. I have successfully installed and setup a hard dirve, which is exciting.

OK, so I over came the corrupt files, but now I'm running into the cio traphandler mismatch with the startmgr command. Seem like the OS is at a v2.3 and the Mgr code is compiled against v2.4. So now I'm stuck until I can cover come the incompatible cio module - anyone have an idea of how to get over that?

Success! I finally found all the correct versions of code and have the windowing system working! I will see if I can post some pictures in the next few days!
