Possible to perform updates via SFTP?

Postby cacophony » Fri Oct 05, 2018 7:41 am

I have my MiSTer setup now and I'm wondering if it's safe to do updates via SFTP instead of having to move the SD card to a different machine.

If I connect via SFTP I see that the config directory, cores, system, and menu files are within /media/fat

I assume it's safe to edit the config files that way while the MiSTer is turned on (though changes might not be reflected till a restart), but is it also safe to replace or add core files? What about updating the menu or system file?

Also, one more unrelated question: When I want to shut down, is it safe to just pull the power? I haven't found any alternative way, and just want to make sure I'm not risking corrupting the filesystem by doing that.

Thanks!

it's safe if you give some time after replacing/adding/removing the files and before doing reset or power off.
Background script is doing FS sync about every 5 seconds.
