Sinclair QL

Postby Sorgelig » Tue Oct 31, 2017 12:17 pm

This core is supposed to support secondary SD card, but i cannot test it. There is no much original info about QL-SD i could find. It's unknown what exact FAT format is required. Also i couldn't find original QL-SD ROM dump. The only QL-SD ROM exist is one from MiST version. From my experience with MiST cores requiring direct SPI SD access, most of them has special re-work where SD card initialization procedure is stripped out. So, there is a chance that QL-SD ROM from MiST version also modified this way.

So, i'm looking for original QL-SD ROM(or confirmation that MiST version of ROM is original) and someone who can help me to test it.
May be someone already used this core on MiST and knows how to prepare and use SD card (i even couldn't make SD work inside this core on MiST).

I'm not a QL user but my Google-Fu is strong.

Here is a developer page with downloads including the manual, hardware and software sources (The software source includes a manual on how to re-build the ROM)

http://www.dilwyn.me.uk/qlsd/

The current developer of QL-SD, Paul Veltjens, seems still active, his last post on the QL forums was 1 month ago.

http://qlforum.co.uk/search.php?author_id=772&sr=posts

It seems he is still making and selling them here :

This webpage seems to provide something called QLE which was built to support the original MiST

not so strong because you didn't find anything i don't know already. And none of these links have QL-SD ROM.
I have sources, but it's supposed to be built on QL. It requires a lot of time to find all required apps for QL and then the way to transfer sources from PC to QL... It's probably easy when you are familiar with QL, but i'm not.

What i'm actually asking is original QL-SD ROM.

this is for MiST! As i've wrote above, there is a chance that MiST version of ROM is specially tweaked exactly for MiST way of work with SD card.

I appreciate all the hard work you do. Really do. Had you put what you had already found in your initial post then I wouldn't have posted it or I may have looked harder for you.

I am sorry I was not able to find the ROM. It's not something that anyone other than the person who makes the QL-SD really needs. As I mentioned he would be the best place to get the ROM from.

The QL emulators do not appear to emulate the QL-SD hardware and so don't require the ROM. Instead they seem able to use QL-SD images because they have parts of the same software which is in the ROM (i.e. the file system) compiled into the emulator (e.g. https://github.com/SinclairQL/uqlx-fork)

Maybe a good QL enthusiast can rebuild the ROM for you now they know where the sources are.

I KNOW ;) I posted it on the chance you may not know about it and WHEN you are able to get QL-SD compatibility in MiSTer you'd have something to try.

Did anyone use QL-SD on MiST?

May be it's better to leave the core as-is. It seems no much QL fans are around.
If someone is willing to help with adding SD card support, then let me know.

Hi,

I have the QL-SD working on Mist.

It appears to work very nicely.

I think this file was zipped with an unusual version of ZIP because the directory names have been suffixed to the file names. Anyhow there is a file called "sdcard_SDCARD_BIN_exe" I *think* this is the output file from a make (i.e. the ROM)

I'm pretty sure that this is a QL-SD ROM.

It's not the same as the one in the MiST package which contains very similar strings but is dated 2011 (this one is dated 2014)

i know about "sdcard_SDCARD_BIN_exe" and already looked inside long time ago.. unfortunately it's not ready for ROM integration. If you will look at beginning of last 16KB of MiST version, you will see it has loader inside. This exe has no loader at beginning. So, it doesn't look like ROM ready, but binary which probably intended to run from OS/Basic.

The corresponding "_map" file (which I took as being the log file during the last build) says "SDCARD_QLROMEXT" which (from the QL-SD-BUILD.pdf) I took as being a build for a QL-SD ROM.

Sorry it is not what you're looking for.

I've asked over at the QL-Forum:
http://www.qlforum.co.uk/viewtopic.php? ... &start=100

Here is the statement:
The QL-SD ROM that comes with the MiST core is the original one. It is the very same thing that is built into the original
Atari: 1040 ST/STFM/STE, Mega STE, Falcon, TT - GigaFile, SuperSatan, Ultrasatan, EtherNEC, NetUSBee, Unicorn, CosmosEx
Sinclair: ZX81, 48k, +48k, 128k,+2, +3, QL - DivIDE+, DivIde 2k11, Interface 1, Microdrive, Interface 2, Spectranet, Datel+D, Interface 1bis, ZXpand

thanks! One unknown factor less.
Then i will play with MiST version to make a working SD card.

That's pretty normal (for QL archives) as this is basically how QDOS (the QL operating system) handles "directories". "dirname_filename", max. 36 characters.
