What is Retrode and how device switch affects it?

It's a USB cart dumper and controller adapter sold by Dragonbox.de . The dumper presents itself as USB storage with a ROM file and the save files (that it extracts from the inserted cart). It supports SFC/SNES,and Genesis carts put of the box, but there are plugins for Gameboy, SMS, and N64 carts.

Why simply don't copy files from Retrode to sd card or usb stick?

Actually, i had plans to start different linux apps depending on core. Later i've abandoned this idea due to complexity from user point of view(development of several apps will add work as well). But it's still possible to do this for very strange projects like this retrode which needs special support.
With every core load, linux app is reloaded to make sure nothing left from previous core, so it's possible to start other app instead to reload MiSTer. And then you can load customized MiSTer app with special features targeted for specific core. Just don't forget to allow to load original MiSTer app when user switch to other cores.

Just curious, does anyone else's De10-nano get pretty hot?

Because using real carts in realtime has a different feeling to it. :)

I guess instead the Genesis could take real carts through a GPIO adapter, which would.probably be better (no dumping time).

It's hot due to ARM CPU. So it produces heat as any other similar CPU, like Raspberry Pi.
That's one of the reasons why SDRAM board is mounted vertically or outward horizontally instead of inward horizontally.

Hello, do you plan to sell already made I/O board and SDRAM board (perhaps through Lotharek's shop) ?

Ist it also hot, if it just runs linux, or when you have the emulations running?

With and without the addon on boards?

Update on the sound issue (humming) I reported. I was able to do some more testing and I only get the humming when my sound goes through my external soundboard. DE10-nano HDMI goes into my TV and the sound goes out of my TV to my soundbar via Digital optical cable.
When I enabled my TV's speakers and muted the sound bar there wasn't any humming that I could hear.

does your soundbar support 48khz sample rate?

This is what I found in the owner's manual

FREQUENCY RESPONSE
Analog input 20Hz~20kHz(±3dB)
Digital input/48kHz PCM 20Hz~20kHz(±3dB)

ok. But the source of problem is unknown for me yet.

About USB OTG: it seems i've fixed it! I will release SD files soon.

New SD files have been released. USB problem should be fixed.

Thanks Sorgelig - You just fixed my USB OTG issue and made my day :-)

I tried compiling another Kernel myself this week (but failed) - guess I have to learn some more on how every component works together. Anyway the USB keyboard, Gamepad and my hubs work now!!!

Might I know what the issue was. Something wrong with the "new" Kernel version?

Only weird thing was that the Genesis core would not want to map a "start" button. May I overlook something as I just had a glance at it so far.

I also ordered another nano board - guess I will have a spare one for my FPGA experiments :-) - Yesterday I ordered the SDRAM PC (v3.1) and the SDRAM chips you recommended. I can solder but have limited SMD experience. Anyway - I will give it a shot - after all I am on this journey to learn new things.

Thanks again for sharing all this information with us and you great contribution for pushing the envelop of the MIST(er) community,

I've moved from kernel 4.6.5 to 4.5.0 used by Terasic.

I've released SDRAM reversed version which mounts horizontally inward. While it look more compact, it covers 13 GPIOs of Arduino and may become incompatible with future expansions. So, i still suggest to use original vertical mount version.

How is everyone shutting down their MiSTer? I've been pulling the power cord, but I'm sure that's not a good idea.

ScrollLock - enable emulation joy
LShift - Start

I pull the plug. Pretty normal for an FPGA DEV Board, if you ask me. Also I use a switch on the power outlet for convenience sake. Same as with my Mist.

I was more worried about the Linux OS possibly getting corrupted. Is that a possibility?

I would not worry too much. The Linux is on a separate partition. So if it got corrupted you should be able to retrieve all data from your Fat partition and move on with another SD-card. The MISTer should survive in any case.

If anyone plans on making extra memory and expansion boards I'd be interested in buying one of each.
