Dandanator on Spectrum core?

Postby RobeInie » Tue Jul 03, 2018 10:30 pm

Hi !

There is an interesting project by Dandare spanish user, called Dandanator,
Dandanator Mini, an interface for any Spectrum model, that shows a menú like a multicart. The games compilation are created by the user via software.
http://www.dandare.es/Proyectos_Dandare ... ts_EN.html

There are two emulators (ZesarUX and Espectrum) that emulate this interface.

The question is: could be implemented on MiST spectrum core ?

In my opinion the ZX Core should emulate only the original computer, not the expansions.

Well, it has ULA Plus and Betadisk interface, for example.
Just a computer and videogame lover :)

Betadisk is ORIGINAL to ZX. The whole ex-USSR area was using TR-DOS as the only disk system for ZX. If you will check how many TR-DOS release were in the time when ZX Spectum was active - it's probably has larger game/demo base than +3DOS or D+ library. This it's definitely a must-have feature.

Dandanator is a post-mortem add-on which most likely won't get any noticeable usage.
Anyway, it's not impossible. If there will be many new games for this cartridge (not the ported disk/tape games), then it will be definitely implemented. Currently there is no point to implement an unused add-on.

Surely if you're going to emulate any real hardware instant loader it would be the more popular DivIDE system?

I don't like DivMMC/IDE as it lock down the Spectrum into 48K Basic.
Also this addon haven't been finished - it still doesn't support LFN. When you have many files, looking at hundred of cryptic names and guess what is it - isn't practical. DivMMC requires direct SD card access which adds more incompatibilities with SD card.
DivMMC/IDE is good for real Spectrum as it eliminates floppy disks and cassettes handling. With FPGA where both floppy and tape are emulated on SD already, DivIDE/MMC gives almost nothing.
