PCEngine core issues with roms?

Postby Kujako » Mon Mar 12, 2018 5:08 pm

Is it just me, or does the PCEngine core have a hard time displaying and reading ROM names? After the first few ROMs the list blanks out and putting things in sub directories doesn't seem to address it.

Known issue? If so, is there a known solution?

probably your ROMs have very long names corrupting the buffers.
Try to use shorter names.

Any idea what the name length limit would be?

I have the same issue. Even browsing sometimes hovers over blank lines. Still, when you load up a game it is a very satisfying experience. I just deal with it because I have my roms named in Hyperspin format and I don't want to rename roms per device I play on.

Issue for me is it dies at about the 5th of 100+, so makes finding the game I'm after rough. I'll rename them, but I kinda want to figure out what the length limit is before I do so I only have to do it once.

Where it's failing, it does not seem to be related to the file name length... frankly, I can find no rhyme nor reason. I tried setting up sub folders, "A", "B", etc. And it can't see them. It does however see a sub folder named "ZZ". Makes zero sense.

I can see when core updates are limited to space restrictions on the MIST, but the PC Engine core is a perfect example of a core that needs little in playability but could be updated on a GUI basis.

This core needs to be adapted to general GUI instead the odd one it has.

I'll put the list at the evening. What MiST do you have? Have you tried to defrag or format the SD and re-copy the files?

MiST 1.3+, tried different cards etc. It works when I can load a ROM, but if there are more than five or so on the SD card it fails to read the directory.

OK... working better after switching to a different SD card. With the following directory structure, everything seems to be showing up (note this is only up to the "B" ROMs). However, I'm seeing a lot of crashes on games like Bonk's Revenge. May be due to the Japanese ROM? Haven't tried PCE VS TG16 setting.

Bonk III wont even load, Bonk II loads but glitches out a LOT with the ground etc vanishing (which causes you to fall into the void). So... anyone able to share a MD5 checksum of Bonk ROMs that work? I'll go down the path of finding them, but want to know what I'm looking for.
