MIST and AMIGA core hardrive idea

Postby lips2k15 » Wed Nov 22, 2017 10:08 am

Hi there, I was wondering if there is anyway to partition an sd card so that it has a second partition that can be read from amiga workbench as FAT32 using the fat driver thats available on the amiga? this would be really usefull for file transfer to and from the MIST Amiga and is the only thing that stops me packing away my real Amiga 1200!

I agree, some easier way to access files would be useful.
For now I just mount the HDF file on the SD card in WinUAE and transfer files to it that way, then pop the SD card back into the MIST.
Still hoping we might get Ethernet support at some point in the future, that would make things much more convenient, allowing you to transfer over FTP or download stuff directly off Aminet etc.

If the HDF file is WinUAE compatible then you *should* (no guarantees) be able to use ADFView the Windows Shell Namespace plugin

http://www.viksoe.dk/adfview/

This will make HDF files appear as folders.

This was written for Windows XP so may not be Windows 10 compatible but might be.

Cool. I think it only works for OFS/FFS file system and nothing more complicated like PFS3 or SFS

It works very well! :D

Do you know if there is something similar for Atari ST hard drives?

Normal TOS supports DOS (FAT16) floppies.

As to hard disks images, EmuTOS supports natively DOS style partition tables and FAT16 partitions, in addition to hard disks without partition tables. You don't need any Atari hard disk driver with EmuTOS to support them (and EmuTOS boots much faster than normal TOS).

NOTE: Windows likes to use long file names (instead of 8+3 ones) on FAT16 file systems. Some TOS versions can corrupt the file system when they encounters those.
