Safe to use an IBM Model M keyboard on the MIST? (Power)

Postby seastalker » Tue Oct 17, 2017 11:13 pm

Watching a LGR (Lazy Game Reviews) youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jjh7zAuaw-0

He starts with a disclaimer about his method of using a Model M keyboard on a phone by pairing it with a PS/2 to USB input (then likely OTG for the phone). The warning is due to the Model M needing more power than some keyboards (if true, I never knew that). So, this may sound silly, and though I doubt it, I have an IBM Model M on the way and wonder if it could harm the MIST in any way being the MIST has a low power draw?

As far as I know the MiST scales its power draw depending on devices connected; like any USB hub. Worst case it would just not power it, but then you can attach it to a powered USB hub to give it extra juice. I did not have a problem connecting two gamepads at once (including adaptors to original gamepads).

Newsdee, always a favorite of mine! Thanks! I have never been hesitant to plug a keyboard into a device before and feel silly. I'll try it with a PC and a Pi and if no problems, I will be "brave"(?) and try it with the MIST.
