Amiga game launcher - help?

Postby Devrandom » Mon Jun 22, 2015 4:00 pm

Hi guys

I'm still new to this scene so maybe I am way off asking this question here - I apologize :)

I have bought myself a Mist and installed the Amiga core on it - which works great and the kids love it! However, I would like to make it easier for the kids to use (switching floppies etc. isn't too easy for them). I have searched the web and found that different Game launchers exists - especially X-Bench (http://www.jimneray.com/xbench.html) looks really cool and uses harddisk installed games (whdload?).
But this is where my knowledge absolutely stops....
Is it possible to download a ready-made hdf/harddisk image with preinstalled games and launcher? our how do I go about installing this?
So far I haven't been able to find a guide on google - but I might be googling the wrong thing.. :)

You can install a "classic workbench" harddisk file which somes with pre-installed whdload and game launchers. There are a couple of youtube videos explaing how to setup such a hdf within uae emulator, which may be easier then setting up everything in MIST.
If you look for classic workbench in youtube you'll find what you are looking for.

As suggested, you can install ClassicWB (http://classicwb.abime.net/), which makes a nice update to workbench 3.x. ClassicWB also contains WHDload, but if you want full functionality, you need to register it (http://www.whdload.de/reg.html).

To simplify installing WHDload games, it is best to install pre-made WHDload game / demo packs (http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=68704).
