MiST instability

Postby SLiX » Wed Jun 10, 2015 7:17 pm

I suspect that my MiST hardware is not as stable as it should be. I use it for Atari ST and Amiga (also AGA) systems, on a 15Khz CRT monitor.

Here are the symptoms:

* I don't remember exactly when it started, but my MiST now regularly seems to shutdown itself, no more LEDs, no more display, but the USB ports stay powered. When this happens, I have to switch the power on and off several times to get it working. Until it starts again, LEDs stay off between on and off.
* Recently, with Atari ST TOS 2.06, I began to get "bad rom crc in chip O" and "bad rom crc in chip E" messages after the Atari Logo.

Is there anything I can check ? Do anybody have an idea of the problem ?

If all leds go off, then you have some very basic problem with the power supply. The green one is basically directly connected to the power source.

Please try a different power supply.

So, I've tried with other USB power supplies I have, at least 500mA.

The problem continues, but because I was unable to power it on again, I opened it to see if there is anything "visually" strange.

Nothing evident, but I noticed something: without anything than the power supply plugged, when the board "crashes" (I am sometime able to turn it on for a little time) or when it doesn't power on, the composant LM3940is becomes very hot in a few seconds (I can keep my finger on it).

Maybe a short circuit ??

That indeed sounds like a short circuit. And if it's the 3940 then the 3.3v rail has a problem. I suggest you get in touch with Lotharek.
