Example of clicking with PCM samples

Postby Foebane » Mon Jul 25, 2016 9:53 am

Steem SSE 3.8.2
Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
tos162uk.rom
Steem.ini: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5CK-_D7y_M_eU1vQVF6YW13SHc
Links to download and video of program for comparison: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=55267

Download the zip file, extract and open in Steem with Disk Manager, insert the first .msa and then insert the others when prompted, demo will then run.

The clicking sound happens after the loading screen, when the footsteps appear in photos on the ground.
DESIRED: Only one click happens when the first photo appears, but just footsteps afterwards, as the video shows.
ACTUAL: There is a click at the start and end of every sample when each photo appears.

Bug confirmed.
Introduced in v3.6.0 with the typical comment:

Code: Select all

    if(dma_sound_on_this_screen) //bugfix v3.6.0

There's also a bug in the balance control.
This will be fixed in next version.
Thx for the report.

I hope you don't mind, but can you check the volume as well, please?

This program (http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=65921) runs from the hard disk this time, but there's a discrepancy with the volume fade in/out on the screen with the boat, waves and seagulls cawing, compared to the YouTube video.

Everything else is the same as before except that Microwire needs to be checked in the settings for the volume control to even work.

Your work is much appreciated, Steven!

I debugged a little more the Microwire emulation.
In fact it was a mistake to use the "dsp" code to change volume, this is what produces clicks, and it's not accurate anyway (nor conform to docs, maybe)!
So I reverted that, and now dsp code is used only for bass and treble controls.
