How do I format a SD for TOS/DOS?

Postby sniperstorm » Sun Dec 04, 2016 1:35 am

I am having problems formating my SD drive to work with TOS and my PC so I can exchange files. I can format and see my sd card on my Atari and use it just fine. But when I put in in my PC it asks me to format the card and cannot read it. Can anyone offer ideas to help?

From what you have only Hddriver can do it. You need to do partitioning of media with TOS/DOS compat. set.
I'm here to discuss. To say what I think, share my experiences. That means not that I will not complain when someone claims that Moon is square. Will complain when someone jumps in without reading carefully what is written. Ah, and don't ask from me something you can self do easily - like search :D

Well, as I know EmuTOS does not support MSDOS FAT16 large (BIGDOS, over 32MB) partitions. Earlier versions did not, for sure.
So, you will need then program BigDOS, what takes + RAM, works not with some Atari SW ...
Hatari people will not like what I say, but why EmuTOS on real Atari ST ?

EmuTOS supports up to 65524 32 kB clusters in a DOS partition. And it does so since like 5 years.

Don't know why Hatari people should bother about, but: Because you can?

When it says DOS compatible FAT system it is not enough. They should add BIGDOS partition support in specs.
I don't know other IDE driver what supports it. If someone knows, correct me.

Hmm, when I tested the latest EmuTOS the other day, on my Pak powered STacy,
I booted it up from floppy drive, but I was able to access the partitions on my
Ultrasatan's SD cards. They are set to C, D, E, F and slightly under 512 megs
each, with HDDriver (2 gig card) (TOS/DOS compatibility mode set).

I didn't have any problems that I can think of.
