Re: im lost..Help please

It's not a true low level format on most of the mass storage devices
for Atari's these days (unlike the old SCSI drives). Right?

I don't remember doing anything on my Ultrasatan with 2 gig SD cards
other than partitioning them, IIRC. It didn't take very long. (and of
course I'm skipping the obvious steps like installing the hard disk driver,
etc)

Is the CosmosEX any different?

Thanks.

That's because the FTP site that the CE pulls those images from is offline. You can test it by going to the following link:

ftp://ftp.cs.tu-berlin.de/pub/atari/games/Automation/

It's been down for a while, what I did was setup a network share on my PC that appears as the N drive on your ST, download a bunch of games and stuff to this shared folder on my PC, then when the ST starts up you can copy the file from the N: drive to the SD-HDD or something.

here's a GREAT page to find ST disk image sites. I recommend checking out this site though:

http://atari.8bitchip.info/fromhd.php#DL

This site takes old games, removes copy protection, patches in features like saving game states, cheats, and makes it so the game can be run from an Atari HDD, instead of floppy. Also makes the games run nice under ST, STe, TT, and Falcon most of the time. I've had the best experience with this setup. It should make it so you can just download a game, go to your ST, copy it to a HDD folder and it'll run. (look for START.TOS file on most of the games)

how long sould a 8gb sd card take to format using hddriver/hddrutil ???

I'm using ICD utils and it takes a few seconds to partition/format (once you figure out how you want to partition the card).
I think someone mentioned that if you use a small sd card you could run into issues with some configurations. I'm using a 512MB card, it seems to run nicely.

I'd also LOVE to take a second to say Moggy2001... I've been using an ST on and off since the stupid system came out and I about wet myself the first time I saw it at a friends house, and until I got my hands on a CE, I never used it for much more than gaming. Now I use it for a shit-ton of gaming.

I gotta say though, ST can be a finiky mistress, but at least it's not an Amiga, and you got Exxos to pimp your ride, so I think once you get all this CE stuff under your belt, you're gonna start having a lot of fun. At the very least it's something you can show off to your friends/kids. I hope someone 3d prints a clear case one of these days.
