Anyone tried Marcello's ST Mint sd card image?

Postby Kirkman » Wed Dec 10, 2014 10:40 pm

I have been trying to use Marcello's "ST MiNT" SD card image on my Mega STe via the CosmosEx, but I get four bombs and never reach the MultiTOS desktop.

Have any other CE owners have tried it successfully? Any suggestions what I might need to do to get it to work?

You could try to skip the CE_DD driver to get loaded, as it might interfere with the other stuff - by pressing ALT or CTRL after seeing message 'CEDD Booter', or by removing CE_DD from ACSI ID configuration. As you're booting from SD card, you don't need that CE_DD to be loaded. If that works, and you still want to have the CosmosEx translated drives accessible from MiNT, then we need to do some more fixing / changes, as the current state of the driver has been tested with normal TOS, not Mint and Magic.

Disabling CE_DD didn't make a difference, unfortunately.

The Atari still hangs up with 4 bombs after it displays "ACCs/DESKTOP.INF: C" on the screen, and never reaches the desktop.

Can you get to the desktop by holding the control key? If so, disable all accs and auto prgs. If this works, start enabling stuff again until it goes pop.
TT030: 4MB/16MB + Crazy Dots, Mega"SST" 12, STacy 2, MegaSTE, STE: Desktopper case, IDE interface, UltraSatan (8GB + 512Mb) + HXC floppy emulator. Plus some STE's/STFM's

Holding control DID get me to the desktop, but only floppy drives were displayed. "install devices" did not cause the hard drive to appear.

Just wanted to check in again... Anyone else tried the ST Mint SD card image using a CosmosEx?

Could you, please, post the link to that SD card image (or page containing it) - I will try it, and fix issues that I'll find.

I finally found the time to try MiNT image at my place, and it seems to work...
- Mega STE, TOS 2.05, 2 MB RAM -> Boots, but with message 'out of memory' (4 MB seems to be needed)
- STE, TOS 2.06, 4 MB RAM -> SD 0, CE_DD 1 --> Boots OK, I can see the content of shared drive and config drive, Kobold starts OK from shared drive, CE_CONF.PRG - gets stuck after first key press. I didn't try copying files here and there as the CE_DD isn't MiNT ready (yet).

I wonder if it would be broken on any other machine at my place? (but I guess I'm out of STEs ;) ). Did you try to update your device to the newest firmware? There was some fix for the SD card usage in the last Hans update, so maybe that could help...

STE, TOS 2.06, 4 MB RAM -> SD 0, CE_DD 1

This was the key. My CE has always been set to:

* nothing 0
* CE_DD 1
* SD 2

Changing SD from 2 to 0 caused the MiNT image to boot properly with no bombs!

Interestingly, though, the N and O drives do not appear, even though CE_DD is *not* disabled.

Maybe the card image was created with the device being on ACSI ID 0, and then resulted in failure when was booted from other ACSI ID instead? Or it's a bug, I can test your scenario and see what it does.

I had to press the menu item 'Install drives' (or what is it called) - same as in TOS, because the drives don't appear by themselves, you have to add them to desktop.

Even though it might all seem to work, keep in mind that CE_DD is not MiNT compatible (yet), so I would use only the SD card in MiNT for now...

It works disabling ce_dd at ACSI config and adding sd as first boot. thanks.

Good to know. With an ultrasatan it works OK and it is configured as ACSI 3&4.
Trying to learn...
