Is a Neo geo even possible with the current board? Not sure, apparently the original has 4 separate banks of RAM so some serious multiplexing would be needed.

Sorgelig has done several Soviet computer cores https://github.com/sorgelig?tab=repositories ... BK0011M, Apogee BK-01, Specialist/MX and Vector 06, so that core could be possible :D

retrorepair wrote:I second X68000 and would definitely like to see more arcade cores, donkey kong etc would be the obvious choices but I wonder if CPS1 would fit on the MIST? That would obviously open up games such as Final Fight, Street Fighter 2, Punisher etc.

To be honest, there are many arcade platforms that support multiple games.

-Sharp X68000 is high on my list. I am about to release the YM2151, which is the sound chip of the Sharp. The other big thing is the video, which was quite complex with sprites, scroll, etc...
-Capcom System 1, which also makes use of the YM2151
-Sega System 16, yet one more arcade platform with YM2151
-NeoGeo, although due to memory limitations of the MIST not all games would work. I think we can get Metal Slug in, though.

And, as a developer, what I really want to see is a poll with +100 voters so I can take it to direct my work. After the YM2151 I am considering which Yamaha chip to do next: that of the Megadrive? the Sound Blaster one? The Master System chip? So a poll showing users wishes would definitely help me.

Ok, I have just started the polls, four qualifying rounds with 9 competitors each. They run from now on for 10 days, with three options per user. I have added four more systems to fill up the field, including the Apple I. I first thought that it contains some TTL logic, but according to here it should be doable on FPGA.

I have picked the systems randomly (using a little program that I have written), but before that I took four "main contenders" (IMHO) and put them into separate groups, so that they don't all show up in the same group.

Happy voting...

how are you going to select them for the next round? top 18 by number of votes?

Well, some people instead of playing C=64, Amiga, MSX, etc... played using IBM PCs and compatibles, specially under MS-DOS. There is a PC core around there... http://opencores.org/project,zet86

Unfortunately a poll can only have up to 10 options.
I would say that the top two of each group, and the two best total runner-ups by votes qualify for the final round.
Or would you favour having the best ten by votes in the final?

Maybe we could also make a "consolation round" for the best runner-ups that did not qualify for the final.

I am looking forward to the day when I power up my MIST XT for the first time...

The perfectly correct timing (mainly for playing old CGA games) in combination with the correct display of the CGA palette and scanlines (I love them on a CRT monitor!) will raise some childhood memories for me...

The problem won't be the top ones but those on the edge.

Maybe do both and we vote to rank the common top X between both methods (which are clearly the most wanted) then we do a second poll to rank the rest of the runner ups.

Or we could take the top five of each round and put them into two "semi final" rounds with ten competitors each? And from there the top five would qualify for the final round.
I think this would be a good approach, as long as the users don't get tired of too much voting...

Based on the IBM 5150 I would also love to see an Olivetti M24 (also known as AT&T 6300, Xerox 6060, Logabax Persona 1600) core. This PC (8086-8, enhanced CGA) is very well documented on schematic / logic level, the full "Theory of Operations" manual with TTL logics description, PAL/GAL listings is preserved online at the bitsavers. It even could be enhanced to M24SP (8086-10, 16 colors at 640x400) just by increase clock and enhance video memory. The M24 with its enhanced graphics and the "keyboard mouse" (similar to the one on ATARI ST) is also well supported by GEM and early versions of Windows and many other software.

Anyhow, a good compatible IBM PC/XT would be nice besides all the other things.

The good thing on XT class computer is that besides the CPU only FDC (NEC upd765, as in CPC), 6845 CRT controller (CGA chipset) and 82xx chips (for serial, paralle and keyboard) needs to be done and I think some of them aready exists as VHDL replacement.

My apology for looking down on the PC XT :)

Anyway, regarding the poll, it would be good enough to come up with a roughly ranked list imo. There are not so many core developers out there, and everyone has his own priorities (not to mention skills).

Just open the topics to see the current standings: poll 1, poll 2, poll 3, poll 4. If you haven't voted yet, please do so now. Voting for this round will end tomorrow.
As we have discussed earlier, we will stage two semi final rounds for which the best five of each group will qualify.
To speed things up, seven days of voting should be enough this time and for the final.
In case of a tie (as we have it currently in poll 2 for 5th place) I will decide the qualifier by coin flipping.

Thomson TO7 / TO7/70 / MO6 (a.k.a. Olivetti Prodest PC128): 9 - 7%
Oric 1 / Atmos: 5 - 4%
Apple I: 2 - 2%

Poll 4
Texas Instruments TI-99/4A: 20 - 22%

Tandy TRS-80 MC-10 / Matra Alice: 0 - 0%

The Cray Supercomputer qualilfied by coin flipping decision (bad luck, as I would have preferred the ZX-80 :D).
I will soon start the two semi final polls, again with three options per user, but this time active for only seven days.

Bring it on. I'd expect the top 3-5 to remain the same, but it will be interesting to see how the other ones will rearrange themselves in the ranks.

I discovered the entreprise 128 only recently. It's really interesting hardware. It's probably the most advanced z80 based system ever.
The custom Asics for gfx and sound would be an interesting challenge to say the least (to me they would be).

Altough originally it's a British construction, this machine was very popular in Hungary in the late '80s and early '90s (for the same reason as the Plus4: it was cheap but strong HW).

The two main pages related to this computer (mainly in hungarian, sorry for this, Google translate may help):

I suspect Sharp X68000 core would be too much for the FPGA that's in there now. Lots of heavy duty custom chips in the X68000. But I'd love to be proven false.

I vote for SNES.
