Messed up graphics

Postby Knezzen » Sun Nov 08, 2015 11:33 am

Hi,

Im experiencing graphical issues with some fullscreen games and my SuperVidel.
I have been trying pretty much everything and have narrowed it down to the SuperVidel driver (i think) is making this happen.

See the attached pictures for the graphical issues and the difference.

I get this when having SV_XBIOS.PRG active in the auto folder. Disabling it (renaming it to .PRX) makes the broken graphics disappear.
Still using the DVI output from the SuperVidel, booted to plain TOS with only NVDI active.
So the issue is related to the SV_XBIOS.PRG.

Any ideas on whats causing it?
Have tried 3 different STRAM-modules thinking that was the issue at first (one 60ns 14mb SIMM upgrade and two original 4mb Atari modules).

The game has been downloaded from here: http://www.klapauzius.net/Old_Games.html#Lemmings

EDIT: Adding the pictures might be good ;)

Do you have the motherboard video clock and vsync cables soldered (2 wire pairs). This looks like such an issue to me.

It's as if the VBL interrupt is triggered at the wrong place. Do I have control over that (obviously I must have)? Tobbe? Henke? Mamma?

EDIT: The other option is that the one who patched Lemmings to begin with (Klaz?) is - perhaps by accident - placing video in a SuperVidel mode, and relies on the VIDEL VBL. This would be the wrong thing to do, and would definitely yield the results shown here. But then again why would he/she do that? Anyway, it's just a theory.

Yes, an SV video mode using Videl Vsync could cause this too. But I have played Klaz' "Fire and Ice" a lot and helped him debug it for SV use, so I'm fairly sure that he doesn't combine the video mode and vsync incorrectly. At least not in Fire and ice. I'm not sure about Lemmings.

All logic points to this being someone else's fault. I don't write bugs.

I'll give "Fire and Ice" a go tonight. Just to add, CPU overclocking does not make any difference at all (if it's even possible).
Running the CT63 at 66mhz at the time of taking those screenshots.

EDIT: Fire and Ice works just fine in both MiNT and TOS with the SuperVidel activated. Must be something wrong with the Lemmings port then.

Hey there!

Just a quick note (from the grave): ;)

Indeed, Lemmings had been patched before I knew about the SuperVidel, so I'm quite sure the fault lies with my patch and not with the SV drivers.
AFAIR, Fire and Ice was the only patch done with the SV in mind, so some of my older patches may have issues when the SV is activated.

Sorry about that, maybe this will get fixed one day, but don't hold your breath. :)

To be honest, I was logging in here just to reply to a PM. But then I decided to read around a bit ...
Not yet ready to re-enter the Atari world, but some day I guess.

Not this one, at least. :)
I remember the SV driver using some of the extended vector space around $300 - $400? Lemmings goes down very low and as far as I remember I did nothing to protect this mem region from the game overwriting it while running, only when exiting to the desktop.
Maybe that's causing the issues, but to be honest my memory is a bit clouded when it comes to such things.
