Atari-related Dates and Events

Postby Cronos » Sun May 01, 2005 8:42 am

One of the pages on stniccc.com lists memorable Atari-related dates and events. This includes begin-and end-dates of Atari-related coding parties.
Since I more or less became an inactive Atari user in 1996, but I *would* like the dates and events to extend beyond that, I'd like you all to rack your brains and use this thread to list any Atari-related events you think ought to be in that page.
The current page can be found at the bottom of the "Other Events" section.

"Atari-related" means that is was an Atari-only event, or a multi-platform event with significant Atari 16 bit (or higher) presence.

Thanks!
Richard Karsmakers

Symp '96, definitely Hamburg, a place called
Hittfeld on the outskirts :-)

Havoc, didn't you think we'd been to
Fallingbostel before, when we drove to
Mekka Symp '02?

Not forgetting the Ripped-Off's 'The Great British International ST Party' which was held in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England in August 1993.

This event was attended by about 55 people from the following crews:

Ripped-Off (Of course)
Chaos
Torment
Ledgers
The Untouchables
Oxygene
Lemmings
Alchemist
Adrenaline
Electronic Images
Fingerbobs
Cynix
Mega4
Reservoir Gods
The Wild Boys
POV
Digitalis

I have some pics & videos of the event if anyone who attended wants any.

Cheers

Nigel

Good idea, I've got the original HP-Source realtime article for it somewhere as well. Are you posting the stuff online, or setting up a website for it?

Does it still have my wonderful prose in it, which from memory:

"If everything on earth had its mirror in hell, then we've all just been to the chippy there .. "

God my guts were bad after that chip shop trip ..

I'm uploading the TGBIST video footage now (300Mb) & will advise when it's done.

Fellow Atari freaks & TGBISTP attendees - you can find unedited video footage of our historic event (The biggest Atari ST coding party ever held in the UK, as far as I know) - held back in 1993:
http://www.ultim8pc.co.uk/rodc/pics/tgbistp/tgbistp.mpg

Beware! It's 310MegaBytes!

Hopefully the Ultim8pc hosting has enough bandwidth to cope with the potential downloads. If anyone wants to take the footage & host it elsewhere then please feel free! (But please let me know..).

If you have any questions - I'll try my best to answer.
Enjoy! ;)

Who was the scouser with the black curly mullet??? I remember him deleting the pics we digitized of him as I suspect they would have been on the smelly socks demo.

Took a few attempts here. In the end had to use wget to brute force it through and even then it needed to resume a few times.

I've found a wonderful picture of my back. Would appear I had a dutch football top on.

Luckily Download Driud works on this forum for non-attached files .. so I'll leave it running in the background and it can restart as many times as it wants that way :)

Ok .. this was '92 right? Oh dear .. I was a skinny b**tard compared to now (ask Retrogamer!) with a god awful "I hate blokes who's hair grows straight" mullet :( I blame my mum for giving me such thick, wavy hair!

At least my music taste ain't changed too much ... W.A.S.P. t-shirt in the group shots (2nd day?) .. pity I had to leave on the Sunday, taking my h/drive with me.

Can't remember who it was, but I hijacked their STE with my h/drive as didn't bring my Mega ST with me (too heavy to lug on the train!).

Eeeee ... memories.

. Pictures of lickle Leon editing HP Source ..
. Griff coding and sleeping at opposite times to everyone else ..
. the Frenchies who gave us an understanding on what they call us (first time I'd heard they called us "ros bif's") ...
. Getting EGB to look at my corrupted copy of Automation Packer .. (not on the video)
. The SNES in the corner with Mookie/Adrenalin (not the one with the 'E' at the end, Stick - that was the French group) - first time I'd ever seen a real life Wildcard copier plugged in
. The greasy fry up downstairs on the first morning
. Agrajag's impossibly thick Glaswegian accent (he's the long-haired one at the end of the video talking to Leon about "Yorkshire bus's" ??
. There was a guy at the end of the room who had an Amiga and getting him to pack some files in Powerpacker so I could test out my Multi-Depacker code :)

For the life of me, I can't remember who was in Torment crew at all .. sorry guys :(

I'm sure there's a few more famous faces and memories, but thanks for the video Stick ..
