I think you've nailed it. Demozoo is really nice for your work (preservation), linking members, groups, parties etc. But for finding and sorting productions not so much. I have to agree with Daniel, pouet.net is still the ultimate source if one wants to see what got released during the last year for instance and not waste time with maybe funny/new/surprising/dug_out_from_somewhere yet not so enjoyable stuff.

Pouet is fine and is still a major demoscene website. Some people have their personal reasons to prefer one or the other. I personally still keep visiting it, it's by far my favorite demoscene website.

As for "pouet is dead", it's a perfect fit for "demoscene is dead" then :)

This is an example of some of the sentiment I have detected ;-)

But thanks everyone for the explanation, I understand the different aims of the two websites a lot better now
