Unreleased demo from 1990

Postby joska » Tue Jun 16, 2015 9:59 pm

Back in 1990 started working on a demo, but gave up before I got a presentable result. I had some semi-working stuff but hadn't put it together to a working demo. This spring I dug out some old disks and decided to finish this demo. As I looked at the sources and graphics I realised that I was a pretty crap coder back then, and an even worse artist... Lots of bugs, lots of weird code. I've fixed up the code and graphics and put it all together, but not changed the basic design. The result is a rather unoriginal and mediocre 1990 demoscreen. It was quite fun to finish it though, I'll definitely do some more assembler work again but maybe not a demo.

It has been tested on an STM, STE and with Hatari. Needs 512kb (1 meg or more is best) or more, and looks best on a CRT.

Edit: Uploaded the wrong build, the previous one didn't work correctly on real hardware...

Pretty cool :) Nice sun set effect with the rasters at the bottom :)

Interesting VU :) I saw one somewhere (probably a STOS demo) which had dancing ninja's for the VU, that was cool

Good stuff! Nice to see you took the effort of taking up some old and new code.

Very impressive for a first release. I want to see more!

Thanks :)

To be honest this would most likely be my last release as well. Today's demos are so incredibly advanced, I don't have time to do something worth looking at.

I can somehow relate to that. But so far, it didnt stop me yet. Compared to my first release a bit back, yours is totally dominating mine, so I guess quality is all relative.

The most important thing is that you're having fun doing it, its a hobby! So as long as you're having fun doing it, I'd suggest you'd continue doing so :)

I like it, things fit together well, the scanline effect behind the scroller is nice (as are colors in whole screen) and that kind of VU-meter is rare.

Tune is maybe a bit too familiar, but you had a good reasons for it.

And last, it's best viewed on original HW, at least regarding the display (CRT) and demo's scanline "blend". ;-)

EDIT: And it's EmuTOS compatible too, which is always bonus.

A pity that you could not finish it back in 1990. Who knows what you could have done now. : D
