Postby Memnoch » Wed Oct 22, 2003 3:55 pm

I had an atari st when i was really small. It broke. Now i have another one. To relive the great games of the past. But I know nothing of demos. Im totaly new to the atari demo scene but find it really cool. Please tell me of some great demos and where to download them.

Oh Crickey is my favourite at the moment.

I think you'll find most demos over at http://pacidemo.planet-d.net/

Using a real ST/e, I'd recommend:

Union Demo
Cuddly demos
European demos
BIG demo (an old one, but still damn fine)
Decade demo
Rip Dis (not one everyone would go for, but I thought it was a good one)
M-Demo IV (or III)
So Watt (for the Grodan & Kvack Kvack demo alone)
Pandemonium
Grusel (c'mon!.. retro!)

for the STe:

Mental Hangover (an ace conversion by the pixel twins - just don't move the mouse)
Grotesque (ace 'rave' style demo with a 242 soundtrack)
Braindead (Utterly stunning at the time)
E605
Delirious III (curiously, only worked on TOS1.6, did'nt like 1,62)
Beleive the music (great moosik - and a THP greet! :D )
..er... I'll get back to you on any more

But there are loads more great demos, esp. ones by Holocaust, who caught the scene late, but thier demos are f*cking stunning..

Oh, and (of course!) - Oxygene demos! (I'd recommend the utterly astounding nostalgia demo)

Then, download leonards YM player, get the ST music archive, then browse with your fave demo/game tunes!

The Dark Side Of The Spoon by ULM still is one of the best ever oldschool Atari ST demos. I recommend watching it!

The really nice thing about ST demos, is that you don't just insert the disk and watch, but you interact with them. This is what made the ST demos so great for me, I think. They never got boring!

What a question. Of course The Cuddly Demos is the best... ;)

Also, demos like Oooh Crickey and some others (The Swiss demo and the Anomaly demo) had some nice AND playable menu games ;)

"Punish Your Machine" and Hexenland are nice too.
And don't forget the 20years anniversary demo!

If I had to go alone on a lonely island, with one and only floppy disk, I really can't say if I take Union Demo or Cuddly demos :-)

btw it makes me a crazy idea: why organize an ultimate "demo screen charts" (not complete demo, only screens), and make a compilation of the best screens, so my "lonely island with one floppy" will be solved !! :-)

There was an old topic there:
http://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=28
I have 'stickied' it.
Only old school, sorry, so the latest productions aren't there.

Not a bad idea, although I don't know who'll do the hacking ;)

If you want a huge list of Atari demos with screenshots, download links and stuff, you can also check pouet.net:
http://www.pouet.net/prodlist.php?page= ... er=thumbup

My all time favorites are still the B.I.G demo, the Union and the Cuddly :)
