Re: Early games were much more ambitiously programmed no?

Most Amiga games were badly programmed too, so don't feel too bad :) I think it's the same on both sides of the camp, very few people apart from the early games coders actually bothered to do anything more than the bare minimum and the best games were usually original ones from smaller groups rather...

Early games were much more ambitiously programmed no?

I've been going through some of the early games for the ST and it just feels like at this time in the life cycle that people threw out the rule book and actually made the best of the ST's 68000 power house and simpler [than the EGA PC/Amiga] screen memory map. For example, look at The Pawn....there ...

Re: Working copy of Gauntlet II wanted please

Even with the somewhat jerky scrolling, Gauntlet 1 had a great gameplay on the ST, very good graphics. We played a lot. Garrison, which was praised by some magazines, was a 0 gameplay joke, typical of many games on the Amiga. Gauntlet II had better scrolling, more samples, but the graphics were a b...

Re: Working copy of Gauntlet II wanted please

Hmmm there is a sprite limit on a real MD (64 I think) so if you get more it does draw a line through them or something...but it's just so much easier to play games on emulators these days. I think it was in 1mb mode I was playing it but I'll just make sure it is and compare again with the Amiga ver...

Re: Working copy of Gauntlet II wanted please

The Amiga only got Gauntlet 2 and 3 (but 3 is nothing like any Gauntlet arcade machine and best to forget that) and G2 is identical in speed and graphics and sound to the ST version save for a few more phrases from the arcade being spoken from what I can make out. I can't even see an extra 16 colour...

Re: Working copy of Gauntlet II wanted please

I have the original STX and the actual game on disk for Gauntlet 1, most awesome coin op conversion on the ST in my book so I know that has missing bits. Was wondering why the Amiga version of Gauntlet 2 is more talky than the ST version and if that was how it is meant to be or just trimmed down in ...

Re: Working copy of Gauntlet II wanted please

I know the intro music is cut short to make it fit on 1 disk, also the Amiga version is identical in look and speed too but on the Amiga there seems to be more speech...."green elf is about to die" etc....was this missing from the ST version...the Amiga version comes on 1 disk too but of c...

Re: Working copy of Gauntlet II wanted please

Was trying to run it on Steem 2.6 emulator with 1mb ram or 512k and TOS 1.02/1.62/1.04 etc I found one in MSA format that just worked with no fuss....it's labelled wrong you need to rename it to .rar and then extract the actual MSA out of the rar file (it is labelled as .msa.rar.msa at the site) htt...

Working copy of Gauntlet II wanted please

I have tried all the ones on PlanetEmu.net and they either don't work (tried 3 different TOS versions and every combination of 512k/1mb with each) and none of them work. The one on Doperoms is corrupt and I can't find Gauntlet 2 in the directory txt files for PompeyPirates/Automania/Medway so am a b...

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles the arcade game for ST required

The conversion of the TmnT arcade game not the rubbish one that has you wandering around the sewers but the horizontally scrolling beat em up in the mould of Final Fight/Double Dragon etc. Can't find it anywhere including the mighty planetemu.net or where it possibly may be the right one the zip dow...

Re: 68000 CPU Accelerator on STE?

Blast from the past!! Well really I could do with a 16mhz machine...and not an STE just a bog standard ST (not even STF/STFM). I remember two 16mhz boards for the ST and all they did was run the CPU @ 16mhz on the daughterboard with logic to filter that down into the standard video/mmu timings etc s...

Re: My first try with Photochrome

I always thought that was the actual Photochrome image!

Just looked at both and they are showing 40,000+ colours when clearly the max would be 512/4096.

Anyone got a screenshot of the actual pic on an ST via an emulator etc?

That was the leading UK computer program so I think it was allowed.

Think it was called Database....much better than the Acorn BBC Micro fanboy rubbish the BBC were churning out at the time ;)

There's one copy of Knight Rider car in our town. Re: REQ: NEO and Spectrum 512 Pictures in Original Formats

OK this is REALLY annoying, how the hell do you view the NEO and Degas pics on a Windows PC....googling for half an hour produced one result which has no NEO plugins for download (xnview).

This is pathetic!

Re: 4096 colors converted to Standard ST

The best colours were with the Sony 14 inch portables circa 1986 in black and silver or all black or all white using RGB SCART cables for ST and Amiga stuff. In the old days those Sony portables used identical tubes to the professional video monitors, the colour purity, sharpness of detail and conve...

Re: Great 640x400 Monochrome art

There were some really good monochrome digitized pictures of Jack Tramiel with the ST on a few disks I got free with my STM I bought I remember, not pixelated like that one but looked much more like mono photographs. Think there was some butterflies too on the disk.

Re: Tom Hudson Vs James D Sachs

There was a lot of great art on both computers which sadly is now gone forever I'm guessing. I remember one picture of a red rose on the ST which was very nicely done indeed. Also remember Sachs also did C64 graphics also and was limited to 16 total colours to choose from in 160x200 and still had so...

Hmmm, I bet it was very close to 1987. Some animations and viewers were posted to Aminet in 1989 http://aminet.net/search?query=dynamic+hires You are right about Dynamic HiRes. It was available in mid to late 1989 via Digiview gold. The New Tek Demo reel 3 looked great! Dynamic HiRes offered Amiga ...

I'm sure there were some demo pictures from Newtek's DigiView v4 software. The Dynamic HAM pictures (16 new base colours per scanline at upto 512 lines down) of the dead tree over sunset and some smooth pebbles on a freshwater lake were really well done. I actually owned DigiView and at the time it ...

Re: Magazine Scans

This is a real shame because all the other popular non Atari computers have an almost complete archive of classic magazines. Like many others I have some time, the skill to make a website for them, but no damned magazines. And they're not easy to come by either, a full set of ST Format would be pret...
