Re: PCS format

nice one, ni! feel free to share this source with us :)))

ra's mode is much more suited to regions with edges and lines. and less to more smooth regions. as i could already see at outline2004 where it was released. hint: come to outline this year ;)

Re: ST MACHINE EXPANSION BOARD IDEA

I'd like to have the following additions to the ST hardware: LAN, CF, 12+ MB RAM, 16 MHz +, etc etc.. But suffice to say this would require massive amounts of soldering. I saw Simbo wrote something like "only" 20 soldering points and cutting some pins. Whenever I read such things I get col...

Re: ST MACHINE EXPANSION BOARD IDEA

Simbo: I mean no disrespect to you. Obviously, you are a hardware guru - deluxe. But your English is deadly. I can't make out what you are trying to poll here.. An expansion card for the Atari TOS series? Which models BTW? Or are you aiming more at an Atari replacement board? Also try to limit the o...

seems like not too much info on the link you supplied. but i guess this is sort of a fair / retro gaming competition? i'm slightly interested if i could perhaps purchase some ST hardware there?

Re: FPGA 68000

Falcon has 18 bit colour in planar mode and 16 bit when in chunky mode. A1200 had 24 bit IIRC. chunky mode was way more useful, anyhow. </pedantic>

Re: How much RAM in your Atari ST?

btw:

there were boards to put 12 MB in an ST, and, of course, accelerators which added stuff like TT ram. a bit rare, though. you may consider this as a pedantic remark ;)

Re: how to stop Shifter reads?

i know idd on the falcon this is possible. tried it myself for a couple of times. normally the videl reads from colour 0 in the border (even in highcolour) and then it doesn't. this should indeed impose a load on the bus, maybe even of some significance with high resolutions. ralf: nice experimental...

Re: adding an FM soundchip to the ST?

Greenious, my point exactly. there is a huge amount of active chipmusicians out there. and when i hear what some japanese guys did with console/arcade/msx (FM) machines in the old days i can't help think what ST musicians could do with it. the atari xl/xe series also has a 2nd pokey extension. i don...

Re: adding an FM soundchip to the ST?

haven't visited this board for a while but Tinctu's post seemed really nice! it would be great if that turbosound could be adapted to the ST. sadly, my hardware design skills are lacking and soldering is also limited to switch/wire/connector (simple) type of stuff ;) MrNi: oh, come on.. not that muc...

Re: 'c- syntax' anybody know about it?

i learned C by starting with assembler. C is just portable assembler + some other conveniences. nothing more, really. but MrNi's approach of first trying a true high level language such as pascal (or basic) is a good way too.

i don't know if coder is a bad position in the games industry. the wages ain't bad, for sure. but the hours are, i've heard. and maybe there is more and more specialisation these days which limits the hardcore algorithm coding to r&d positions. musicians in the gamesbiz: some made a great career...

the images look great. if this really is fully compatible to the STe.. I do believe it has PS/2, a CF reader, USB (nice, but i hope also some custom h/w to offload the cpu!) and even ethernet (that really really rocks). I was aware of this project already but i didn't know the mobo was already finis...

it boosts the cpu to 32MHz.. everything the cpu can keep to itself (without access to the bus) is speeded up. for instance: number crunching, look-ups from small tables (in cache). in practice, it's only really noticable when using stzip or similar programs. on the desktop you don't really notice an...

Ra's highresmode intro also uses med-res. (fyi: it's sort of a photochrome using med res instead of low res and interlace + scroller)

ah, no second prize.. an old friend of mine once checked NSP and modified this routine to do without self modifying code. he even said it was slightly faster that way. afaik, it was Nick's routine. btw, why use scan tables at all? i don't need em and my routs are just as fast (at the cost of more co...
