Re: Galaga on Atari ST/E?

Try Insectoid, it's a good Galaga clone that also lets you move up & down. And it has the double ship :)

Re: Quake 2 ported to Amiga AGA...

I like the video that was linked to it... It reminds me of playing Quake 2 on a Pentium with software rendering back in my university days. Gotta admit the Amiga is getting more impressive (still know what my first love is)

Re: ST vs Mac : advantages/disadvantages

I remember college... Was very strange. They had an A1200 for video titling, not used for anything else... 1040ST for Cubase, not used for anything else... For "real computers" they used Macintosh Classics. I don't understand, they obviously knew about the A1200, a cheap 020 machine, and ...

Re: Galaxian

You sometimes nowadays forget how difficult it was getting hold of stuff in those days.. cover disks or modem and trying to get into a bulletin board late at night... Or of course waiting for a batch of disks in the post... <sigh> Slower but happier times I think :) Tell me about it! All the stuff ...

Re: Galaxian

Anyone remember Galaxian by Sinister Developments? Felt (at the time) that was the most accurate copy.. But with the ability to play original rom now, that feeling could change..! Yeah, got that on a coverdisk back in the day... I was very surprised how very close it was to the arcade version, but ...

Re: Full screen mode in STeem

It's been a while since I last used Steem, but I think you had to go into Keyboard Shortcuts screen and add in "Toggle Maximise Screen" with a keystroke (like say Alt-Enter). And don't forget to do the same to call up the menu bar when in full screen.

Re: Alternative desktop and user interface concepts

Yeah, I can get behind this idea for an alternate GEM desktop... I don't like the idea of a desktop crowded with icons and the Win95 taskbar is old fashion and doesn't mesh with GEM IMHO. It could be something as simple as a dock on the bottom (or side) for placing shortcuts for apps. Could use a cr...

Re: Falcon Doom

Looks like there are different versions of the Jag WAD already, and related conversion tools. I'll have to dig through it all to find out what's been going on and what resources are available now. http://www.doomworld.com/vb/wads-mods/56918-jaguar-doom-conversion/ I'll have to check it out... Since...

Re: Gobliiins 1 - exe worked on pc

I have indeed encountered another game like this but I sadly cannot remember the name :( I believe it was a first-person adventure of French origin. It was Robinson's Requiem, the Falcon version was on a CD-ROM and also had the DOS program on the same disk. Both versions used the same data files an...

Re: Aranym Limitations?

It's really more of a way to run FreeMint on a PC than an exact emulation of an Atari machine. It really relies on using the CPU on the host machine to do things outside the normal emulation like VDI accleration and playing movies on Aniplayer without using a DSP. Sadly it's all complicated to set u...

Re: Modern Wedge Case

It would look al lot better in Atari grey, the black is too dark and the white just way to clinical for me. I like grey (all the 50 shades of it ;) ) A nice silver-ish grey like the Falcon would look nice, but the black does match perfect with the rest of my electronics. Now if the guy can make one...

Re: Hatari on Original Xbox

Hatari has very few dependencies. If libSDL and libz are already ported, and the compiler has OKish support fo C99 C-standard, there should be no problems. If someone were to port Hatari to the original Xbox, they can use OpenXDK which supports SDL libraries plus it's legal since it doesn't use any...

I know it's still experimental right now, but it would be great to play a proper version of Street Fighter II...

And also the X68000 version of Castlevania is wicked. Played it on the PSX once, but it's so rare to find.

Yes, I thought that was interesting. Shows that he had visions beyond simply selling lots of computers. Less surprising, perhaps, to see his attitude towards advertising: "[...] I believe the way to sell products is not through marketing but through technology". Jack Tramiel's reluctance ...

I was just thinking... Those CD's have Atari software that was also on the PD libraries and FTP sites at the time. One of them was the Mega Atari Archive which was a mirror of the University of Michigan FTP section for Atari STs. But now it's hard to find that stuff online as the FTPs are gone and m...

If you feel you want an authentic monitor to match your authentic vintage computer, go for it... But sure that you're still able to get one not only to buy, but also to replace in case the electronics wear out on it. Still it's amazing that 20 year old ST's can run good while 5 year old PC's crap ou...
