Re: Flight Sims

I played the ST Format cover demo of MiG 29 Fulcrum - I thought it was really nice, the first flightsim where I realised mouse control was better than digital joystick. It was quite nice dogfighting in that game, you could hang around behind an enemy plane quite nicely as it rolled trying to get rid...

Yes Thunderhawk! Great graphics and quite smooth too if I remember. Plus nice cinematics also - a very polished game.

Re: Flight Sims

The ST had some great flight sims. Yeah the frame rate wasn't great, and got worse towards the end of the machines life when they tried fitting too much in. Some great examples are F-16 Combat Pilot, F-16 Falcon, F-15 Strike Eagle (1, 2 & 3), F-29 Retaliator. Plus you've got Carrier Command and ...

Re: Problems with Windows 10

Hmm, I had a similar experience with Steem recently - I'm on Windows 10 (not sure if that is important though) and Steem crashed at a particular point during a game. Each time I restarted Steem it played the exact same thing & crashed immediately again. A reinstall did fix it.

Re: Biased eBay guide

I'm not seeing much fanboyism here? He's talking about A500 v STFM - by far the most common models at that time - I think that's fair, right? Most of those statements ring true for me, and I was firmly placed in the ST camp at the time & since. What are you're problems with that he's saying?

Re: Atari email archive 1982 - 1992

Yes I know that, but there are mentions of the 8-bit Atari hardware, so I was hoping for ST content too. Well actually I saw mentions of POKEY chips, but it looks like they used in their arcade cabinets too, so maybe there is nothing to do with computers in there. I still think someone may find it a...

Atari email archive 1982 - 1992

Hey everyone I found on reddit an interesting page containing internal emails in Atari between 1982 & 1992. They cover the ST years, but I haven't yet seen any mention of STs yet. There are however lots of technical information on gaming hardware, I'm sure it'll be interesting for some of you gu...

Hi exxos I enjoyed this one too, and am looking forward to The Amiga Years sequel that is currently being worked on, even though it isn't ST focused. I hope they don't just bag the ST in it.

Re: Recording games in emulators

I tried FRAPS (v3.5.99) with Steem 3.7.2 and beta 3.8.0 and it just works, of course. Fullscreen or not, 50fps, nice big avi movies. I'm using up-to-date Vista for the record (got that one  ?) Huh, well you know what? I got it working too :) I think I didn't realise the startup options only a...

Re: Recording games in emulators

Wow thanks for all the suggestions guys - this has got to be one of the nicer places on the internet! :) Unfortunately I'm no closer to actually including Atari footage in any videos I produce. I should have mentioned I am using Windows, my preferred emulator is Hatari (much closer emulation of the ...

Oh hi! Yes it was me, I dropped it for more exciting projects unfortunately. It was a Windows program that allowed you to edit STOS sourcecode to be run on an Atari.

Recording games in emulators

Hey everyone, I've been meaning to make some YouTube videos including ST games, and have been trying to record emulators with little success so far: Steem - FRAPS will not record this at all (to do with how Steem writes video to the screen?) Hatari - FRAPS will not record (same reason as above?) but...

Yes this explains why their code base couldn't be ported to the ST, not 'is it possible to write Flashback for the ST?'.

Hi Exxos - from memory to run a .bas file you must have the same extensions (assigned the same letters) as the original author's setup - is this the case here?

ST in a music video

Just saw this song Rangers by Randa on tv here in Aus. The video has a few shots of an ST (in need of some all brite treatment I think). Nice to see some live for the machine still :)

I think it looks great, as a piece of concept art. Very slick. Given that it is designed as a PC case, its practical use is kind of meh.

...The fact is that prince of persia out the traps and bonus items has nothing 'big' out of those, where Flashback has a lot more... I'm just not sure what you mean here. If you could elaborate it would be useful to furthering the discussion. ...The main sprite use a huge lot of frames only for him...

Re: Flashback on atari ST....

The question of "is Flashback possible on an ST" can be answered by looking for existing games that are capable of the same gameplay. Someone else mentioned Turrican 2 in this thread, but I feel Flashback isn't even up to that standard (no scrolling, just flip screen) - perhaps Prince of P...

Re: Flashback on atari ST....

Shame we still cant have a decent discussion involving Amiga & STs without it devolving into random claims of superiority! Sure the ST had a *slighly* higher clock speed, my suggestion that it would help was purely tongue in cheek. Of course the Amiga had much better graphics & sound process...

It's a processing intensive engine, and it slows down to a crawl as soon as you have 2 or 3 different enemies. Lots of calculations i guess..... I don't doubt what you are saying, but honestly I could code a static screen with an animated sprite in STOS. Animation of two or three sprites is not a m...

Hmmm I dont quite buy your argument dlfrsilver, I think at the very least the first level (because that is all I've seen!) of flashback would be very possible on the ST. Flashback is way more complicated than shadow of the beast. Not true - beast has multi-layered parallax scrolling - very hard to d...

Are those keys just blank now, or did you somehow get letters on to them after the paint? Its kind of hard to tell from the photos.

That Thalion logo looks amazing in HD! One request though, if possible? Instead of opaque blue, could the water droplets be rendered as a water material, so the look transparent & reflect the rest of the picture as a real raindrop would?

Re: ST Games not possible to finish regularly

SkyStrike+ - cannot get past level 26 - I cant remember why off the top of my head, I think some game event (like bombing a cliff-side artillery maybe) doesn't trigger meaning you cannot complete that mission.
