alanh wrote:And what happens with this disk and no USB drivers at all ? Does it still come up with 2 bombs on Cancel ?

That works fine, in the sense that it doesn't reset the ST, but the disk is still not readable. Sorry if I previously might have forgotten to mention this...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

If you're inserting a floppy, then try without BigDOS to remove that from the equation. If I remove BigDOS; the error window pops up and the computer doesn't reset when I try and open the damaged disk. If I then click Cancel the ST bombs (2 bombs I think) and resets. If I click Retry it retries and...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

I'm not sure I've fixed anything. Try it with the motor on/floppy issue you are seeing as I don't see it. And let me know if it makes any change at all. I have done a quick test now and it seems like the motor is spinning down as it should now. But still have the crashing; inserted a disk with a me...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

OTOH, if the drive is deselected while the motor wasn't yet stopped, it is a software issue (TOS, drivers, game, or whatever). Again, if the drive is not selected, the FDC doesn't get index pulses and its motor off counter never expires. Normally TOS doesn't deselect the drive until confirming the ...

Re: Problem viewing NEO pictures in XnViewMP 0.83

Hi, Same problems with XNVIEW Full version with Windows X, but only with my computer and not on my laptop, weird ? It seems a recurrent problem with the INI or REGISTER profile saving. I don't find any solution of this issue for the moment and I need to open PI1 picture with an another program... K...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

I find it better to use MSA 1.41 to archive the disks. You can then extract individual files from images in an emulator. Yeah, I have been using that a bit. But had some initial problem when a MSA file didn't work, not sure what happened. So I held off using it, but now it seems to be working fine....

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

I'll need to see if I can generate a bad floppy disk to test this as all my floppies are good, and I don't know about the Swedish characters. I can't say it's high priority to fix it though as it's pretty rare to have a bad floppy, or at least it should be. It could be a problem with BIGDOS, so may...

Problem viewing NEO pictures in XnViewMP 0.83

I am a big fan of the media browser XnViewMP and use is pretty much daily. It can read about a metric ton of different weird media formats, including some ST picture formats, like Degas and Neochrome. But I am having this somewhat weird issue with NEO files(might apply to other formats as well), whe...

Re: 3D Animation Programs

I am slightly late to this topic, but why not reply anyway :). I also got started with 3D on my ST. Used a lot of the Cyber Family software back in the days. So I might have some stuff of interest for you in my disk box. I am currently in the process of transferring my old disks, but its taking a lo...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

Hope everyone has had a brilliant holidays! I have now done some further testing. It seems that the only time my ST crash now is when I encounter a read error on the floppy or there's Swedish characters in the file name... and then only using the TOS file copier. I have tried some different imaging ...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

I have now tested the 2912 drivers together with Bigdos. I partitioned my memory stick with EaseUS on a PC ... and now its working better! Everything boots fine and I can add a C drive. Systems seems more stable. But the computer still resets when I encounter a read error on ANY floppydisk. Trying t...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

are you on Windows ? if so, try making the partition using the EaseUS software http://www.partition-tool.com/landing/home-download.htm - the free version does what you need. Just make sure you create a primary partition, not a logical one. Thanks for the link! Was just looking for a solution to thi...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

Try todays drivers. You'll probably still get the error partitioning, but you should be able to partition your device on Windows now and use it directly if you use BigDOS. So you don't need to use HDDRUTIL/HDDRIVER or CBHD/CBHDCONF anymore. Will do! The previous attempt didn't involve BIGDOS at all...

Re: Which Games have the Strangest Sound Effects ?

I was fascinated with sampled sound effects on my ST. I had a Spectrum before and the idea of having sampled sounds was just mind blowing to me. I got Mission Elevator as an early game and I remember loading it up just to listen to those samples. Especially remember one when you opened a door and th...

Re: NEW USB Host Controller via ACSI

Does this happen _when you swap floppy disks_ - without any accesses to the Unicorn? If so that sounds like you might have PSU issues, unstable power. However I would assume it could then happen with the Unicorn not connected at all as well. /Troed This only happens after I have "successfully&...
