Re: Modern OS-es, pros and contras, experiences with ..

Yeah, the best one could hope for, in my opinion, for TOS/GEM to move forward would probably be something like AROS, where they are reverse engineering the 3.1 version of Amiga workbench on x86, then having an emulation layer in place for legacy software.

Oh god, do you hate yourself? Ever hear of IMAP? I don't hate myself over something as trivial as email but I'd rather have my email stored locally than on a remote server like GMail or Hotmail. The reason? 1) Stored locally I can access it and prepare a reply without an internet connection then se...

Re: A good place for CF card on Falcon?

Nice! With the CosmosEx and the jumble of other stuff, I decided to just go for the Wizztronics Rack mount. Plus I think at that point I can use my Mega STe keyboard, I just need time to put it all together... @Joska, I got a much lower profile PicoPSU that works with my CT60e. The memory actually s...

Better: http://forum.atari-home.de/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=12796.0;attach=11384;image This just shows you have too many Falcons, would you like to part with one? (just kidding, I have mine, and don't have the cash to part with now... I still need to put mine in the rack case!)

Re: A good place for CF card on Falcon?

I don't have a permanent place for retro computers and need to unpack them when use them, so it isn't a problem that I need to lift the machine. As for cartridge port, as I said, I don't have anything for it. I'll maybe try 1s1's solution if I acquire something that goes into cartridge port (curren...

I use more than one OS: Home laptop: Windows 10 64-bit Work laptops: Windows Vista (!) 32-bit and Windows 10 64-bit Email: Window XP. Either way, both should be ported to the Jaguar, and/or patched to support 4 player.

I think I need to get decebt at CAD as well...

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

There is Exxos and some guys on the dosbox forums that made replacements that are low profile and take a CR1012 (I think, it is a smaller coin battery than the standard 2032 most CMOS uses. Exxos' store says he is sold out though.

Re: You CAN browse modern sites on an Atari :)

I love ncftp. What I would love even more is if we could get a Debian/MiNT m68k distribution. Still have your standard stack of Thing(or TeraDesk) and Mint kernel, but have a nice userland of Debian so I could 'apt install bash' and get a recent version, etc. If I had more time / knowledge, I'd try ...

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

I ordered mine last year, can't recall from where, I think it was a Chinese distribution store selling through eBay. I don't know why you wouldn't just order this from Exxos; https://www.exxoshost.co.uk/atari/last/storenew/ Oh, he's out of stock, apparently. Anyhow, it is the same kind of setup. Eve...

I am using win 10. i find that Microslop have improved on their patches updates & upgrades, as those are downloaded in the background while using it. It takes days, you can see the status of the download on the update status screen, but in no way competing for resources with you. Most small pat...

Re: Modern OS-es, pros and contras, experiences with ..

I use Linux mostly, specifically Debian. I do dual boot Windows 10, for gaming. But like most, I tend to get frustrated by drivers, and updates. I noticed almost the same behaviour between Windows 10 and macOS. When doing a major upgrade, you got through a download, prepare, start reboot, installing...

I always like to have an original (for full compatibility) and a molested one.

Unfortunately who can afford two Falcons these days? It's hard enough for me to find one with a US keyboard that is under a grand... with all the keys!

Awesome. I have a real 130XE that is upgraded to the max, but it sure would be nice to have some organization to the cart/disk images! Wonder if I can use this for something like that?

Re: I'm calling Willy out! SuperVidel info!

Damn. Yeah I also would think the lack of Analog signals would be a show stopper as well? I think even with HDMI you can get analog converters, I don't think I have seen any DisplayPort to VGA cables. DVI is the most universal in that regard and has some of the highest bandwidth potential. Too bad t...

I thought I read that DisplayPort wasn't encumbered with royalties? Micro DP would be a bit less painful to find a spot for as well.

Re: I'm calling Willy out! SuperVidel info!

I ended up getting the Rack mount case so I don't have to cut up the original. Still haven't gotten around to putting the Falcon in there, since I also have to mod the board for internal SCSI for the Cosmosex! Awesome that there will be a new run after I forked out way too much for one. At least I m...

If I recall, it is the one that is soldered in the middle of the two socketed ones under ahre the VME slot is. Either that or it is under the SCSI coard. I do know it is one that is never socketed.

Haven't had a chance to get the Falcon back out of it's case yet, and it's a good thing, I just got a new toy in the mail.

Might have to wait until the weekend, but this should help with making my Falcon 'neat'.

Hmm, that could be it. I had the case on my bed as I was trying to put it together. Nkw it is back in the original case all hooked up, kind of a chore to keep trying, I will see if it is bowed in the middle.

Re: Wizztronics Rack Case for Falcon... mismatched screw holes?

They lined up just right. I can try again when I wake up in the morning, I would have to take it back out of the case. Now I did try as well to see if I was supposed to put the shielding in, but that was a no go as some of the mounting holes made it sit at a weird level, and they still did not line ...
