Re: SDRAM board

... I find that I can go back and use the old 167MHz test and I don't get any errors at all. Funny you say this. I am finding my boards are very stable without errors at 150Mhz if I use the old 150Mhz core (just wish it had a timer so I know how long it's been). So... I got another new DE-10 in tod...

Re: FX CAST Atari ST core

The current VGA works great for me. You just need to make sure that your monitor actually supports 50Hz, or the game (or demo) has the ability to switch to 60Hz.

Re: Save States for the cores

For many FPGA projects that do have save state capability this is typically achieved by having a master system clock that all other clocks in the domain are derived from. Stopping the master clock effectively freezes the entire system, and at that point allows saving whatever DRAM/BRAM and states th...

Re: SDRAM board

I believe the fasted requirement for any core is under 120MHz, so it probably doesn't matter if the memory passes at anything higher than that.

Re: SDRAM board

One other thing to mention. When I have a SDRAM board that gets 1 or 2 failures per minute using the latest memory test (the one where you can change the memory speed) I find that I can go back and use the old 167MHz test and I don't get any errors at all. This is repeatable. So, keep that in mind. ...

Re: FX CAST TOS versions

I did understand what you are saying. You believe that in the history of the Atari ST there was never a program ever written that makes calls to TOS2.06 specific routines (which obviously did not exist in TOS1.02). I have disks that won't boot under TOS1.02, but do boot under TOS2.06 (with a real or...

Re: FX CAST Atari ST core

I guess over the years you’ve forgotten a few things... No, when it comes to the Atari I am as dumb as a post. :) I am a Commodore person. I got my first ST to play Starglider. :) I got rid of it about 10 years ago or so, and then when I created SuperCard Pro I had to get another machine (and both ...

Re: SDRAM board

That's good to hear. There is no info in the datasheet pertaining to pin impedance or the effects of stray capacitance, but its pretty apparent that the Winbond chips are very touchy. The Alliance chips don't seem to care too much about solder flux residue.

Re: FX CAST Atari ST core

Thanks, I will watch my PM for SCP support! I have tinkered with the Atari ST stuff since they were released. I have 6 different real machines here with mono and color monitors (and thousands of original disks). One machine has TOS1.02 and the rest have TOS2.06. There is no TOS version in between. I...

Re: FX CAST Atari ST core

OK, thanks for clarifying. As far as I know the U.S. market only had machines with TOS1.02 and TOS2.06. I am not aware of any other version (like TOS1.6) that was actually available here. My point in this is that there are programs that require certain versions of TOS in order to function. Some requ...

Re: FX CAST Atari ST core

I have Audio Sculpture and it doesn't load on a real machine with TOS2.06, but it does load on a real machine with TOS1.02. This is also the case for STeeM and Hatari. It seems there many different programs that relied either on TOS1.02 or TOS2.06. I am not an Atari expert by any means, so i don't k...

Re: FX CAST Atari ST core

Ack... yeah, I meant 2.06 (AmigaDOS is 2.04). :) I will put together a list of programs that don't run. You do know there should be a list here in the main forums of programs that *require* TOS2.06? What drives me nuts is that there are lot of programs that also *require* TOS1.02 (like Audio Sculptu...

Re: FX CAST Atari ST core

As thgill is saying, and for maximum compatibility, currently it has Uk 1.0 builtin. In a future release you would be able to choose whatever TOS you want (and provide). Ok, then this makes sense why there are compatibility problems during my testing. There are a LOT of games and utilities that req...

Re: SDRAM board

One thing that I have seen with the Winbond chips is that they are very sensitive to capacitance created by solder flux residue between pins - much more sensitive than the Alliance brand. Use a LOT of solder flux remover and a fine bristled toothbrush (or similar brush) to remove any debris between ...

I have the same issue with Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows 98SE. These are real versions installed on .vhd files using VIrtual Box from real install CD's.

I will see if I can locate a OEM version, which are typically more generic installations.

There are 4 opcodes on the 1541 test suite's 1st disk that fail. I didn't try the 2nd disk. Also, the "CPU Port" ($01) fails VICE's CPU test suite.

Do you have these test suites?

Re: SDRAM board

The DE-10 does play a big part. I have one that won't pass any SDRAM board memory test at even 140MHz, and I have one DE-10 that passes at 167MHz for days with any of the modules I make.

Yes, I was referring to the 68K core. However, Mike's cores are certainly not limited to the Replay. You will find them in everything from MiST to Papillio sample projects - but I am guessing that you already know that.

Re: FX68K Cycle accurate 68000 core

If you remove the cycle exact accuracy of the FX CAST core, it runs at about 60MHz on the Replay board. :)
