Re: Why real hardware?

Everything would be smooth if you used a hard drive with an ST, thats the only difference! And the ST/e has real parts! I recall my friend getting his new Pcee in 1993 and expensive soundcard! To play xwing. . . Anyway I picked up an SH205 harddrive and that has 3ms seek time faster than his new ki...

Re: Why real hardware?

That's a great thing for you, isn't it? But it's not going to preserve Atari ST? For me it's Atari ST when i run all my favourite games. It's there on my PC screen, both the feel and the look. Good for you... seeing your fav game on the screen. It's not the games I am enjoying.... if I want a game,...

Re: Why real hardware?

because STeem is probably the only chance they ever will got to run an Atari ST. Emulators and disk images will be the future of Atari ST for sure. You make it sound as it's impossible to find an working ST these days. I have a couple different ST's and they all work fine. And if they need some sma...

Re: Why real hardware?

Most of us own a quote modern computer to surf the net? You too? That's all you need to use any emulator. My computer with Windows 7 is almost ridiculous stable, not a single error or hassle in about 1.5 years. To start any ST game is as "hard" to press a button from Total Commander. (can...

Re: Why real hardware?

Now to my real point . If you like real hardware, that's fine by me, but don't boycott emulators. ;) I use them both.... The feel of an Atari isn't there on an emulator. That's a great thing for you, isn't it? But it's not going to preserve Atari ST? For me it's Atari ST when i run all my...

Re: Why real hardware?

since an emulator can never be 100% Obviously for most digital systems that isn't the case. The emulator can be 100% accurate. Whether it is or not is a different question. But a computer is not just a digital system. The software is digital. But the hardware is analog. The sound and picture is pre...

Re: Why real hardware?

OK, I do own a "modern" computer, and yes it's stable and yeah I do use emulators and noone is boycotting them. But would we write our programs for the emulators? Would we write our demos and games for the emulators? Do you see anyone writting a game and say: this is a STEEM game? Why not...

Re: Why real hardware?

But i have never understood the need for using real hardware when emulation works this good? Does emulation work good? Not in my experience. I have a lot of experience with emulators of far less complicated machines than the ST and even these are does not emulate the hardware perfectly. And to top ...

Re: Why real hardware?

To all people who posted a comment. :) If we think less selfish and look at it in a bigger perspektive. Atari ST hardware is going to die sooner or later as well as all the other old computers. Emulators is what's keeping Atari ST alive these days. Very few people can get a real ST to use but the wh...

Re: Why real hardware?

Shredder11 Dal nativ Thank you for several good points in using the real thing. I'm well aware of that some people want the real physical thing, i'm not one of them as you can understand. I'm more then happy to be able to run the old games using emulators. That is probably the answer to my question ...

Re: Why real hardware?

Why buy a hardware synth when you can get a VST softsynth? Why go and buy a hardware compressor when you can buy one of Waves awesome VST effects? The beaty of todays computers is the ability to recreate hardware as software and run everything virtually. The same thing goes for Atari ST or any other...

Re: Why real hardware?

For your knowledge. I actually own a real STE, but why should i use it when emulators works this good? I would probably find myself swearing over how clumsy it is compared to using STeem or some other emulator. That's why i'm so happy when someone (Steven Seagal) improve an already great emulator.

Why real hardware?

Excuse me But i have never understood the need for using real hardware when emulation works this good? The emulator let you do anything that you can't do on a real ST. Super fast loading, save anywhere in a game. Using snapshots, expand virtual memory, make a huge virtual harddrive or speed up the p...

Re: The Obligatory 'Introduce Yourself Thread'...

Well, i'm here mainly because of nostalgia. I have owned most of the old computers and game consoles, from Channel F, Odyssey II, Atari 800 and so on. I was mad about computer magz and bought most of them in the 80's and 90's, from Your Sinclair to ST Format, Gamepro, Commodore User or CVG. After Ni...

Re: The Steven Seagal build!

Thanks. Great job. :)

Your first upgrade fixed the framerate and now the display is much better. Unfortanly i'm no programmer else i would have helped you to improve this excellent emulator. ;)

Re: The Steven Seagal build!

STEVEN SEAGAL - Thanks for improving (i my opinion) the best Atari ST emulator. Would it be possible to fix so Steem uses Windows 7 DirectX overlays? It makes the whole screen much softer by using some antialising effects to get a more tv like and glossy display. I worked fine in XP but not in Windo...
