Re: Hatari 2.1.0 has been released

Does Devpac "dsp debugger" use 56000.ttp? That is buggy, and works only with very low GEMDOS file handle values. Hatari GEMDOS HD emulation must use higher handle values to avoid mixing them with TOS ones. Christian Zietz provided on hatari-devel mailing list details of the issue and a pat...

Re: There are tons of BEST of threads, how about the WORST ST games?

Regarding games with "killing" in their title, "The killing game show" was great.

Especially the replay-from-start where one could continue at any point from the previous game play.

I don't remember even any of the modern games providing that.

Re: PLATOTerm rewrite using GODLIB

IMHO GCC telling e.g. about potential array overwrites (on highest optimization levels) and where they happen, beats searching for those problems at run-time, regardless of how good the debugger is. :-) Note: I'm not saying it's better, just that (especially newer) GCC versions can do some useful an...

Re: Drone by Dead Hackers Society demo glitches

On real hardware this demo can have problems. For example, on my STe (4mb 4160STe, TOS 1.62) the demo crashes when run from the internal SD card on my UltraSatan, but runs very happily from my transfer card only. I remember CiH puzzling over this for a few hours at a past Outline party to try and f...

Re: Hatari 2.1.0 has been released

I can reproduce this. It doesn't happen on loading Mon030, but starting a program from it. With Hatari v2.0 (MMU enabled), Mon030 stops at first instruction in the program after loading it with Pexec(3,...) and starting it with Pexec(4,...). With Hatari Mercurial version, there's exception in Min03...

Re: Hatari 2.1.0 has been released

Hi, When you change from a configuration using VDI extended mode (large resolution like 1280x960) to a smaller standard resolution like standard mono or RGB color, the screen is not wiped out properly and the old screen remains visible at the top and below the new one. I have found this bug in Hata...

Are you keeping it compiling also with GCC? That has much better error checking than Pure-C which is sometimes very useful.

Re: Whitewater madness problem

It has two floppy images. One can see what happens with "--trace os_base" (or "--trace gemdos"). When booting from the A image, the WWM.PRG is automatically started from the AUTO\ folder. That program tries to load (non-existing) DRIVERS.DAT, and then it loops trying to load file...

Oh, I didn't realize that --video-timing is only for ST (it's in ST/STE section of the command line options). Maybe the option explanation could explicitly state that it's for ST MMU/GLUE?

Re: Drone by Dead Hackers Society demo glitches

Are you using Hatari version v2.1? Hatari can show more pixels than most (analog) monitors would with real HW, so demos don't necessarily clear all of their borders fully. Real HW can also have different video wake up states after boot, and between Atari HW having different chip versions. Depending ...

Tested the cartridges on that page with latest Hatari. Few notes: * Star Raiders complained that there's no disk in drive A: * Joust cart game selection doesn't work if slow FDC emulation is disabled * In StarWars selecting mouse instead of joystick results in double bus error when pressing fire fir...

Re: Breaking the ST limits

Ray's TGA viewer uses 3 alternating frames with diverse color tones to get some impression of true color. But I think that idea is not good. There is too much flicker because of much difference between frames. Johan's MGif image manipulation program supports similar thing also for monochrome monito...

Re: couple of new STOS demoscreens

I wasn't so fond of FIRE.TOS, but I really like PAL.TOS. I think its plasma effect looks much nicer and both its scroll text and music are more to my liking. :-) (Both work fine from Hatari GEMDOS HD, so they don't need disk image, zip would be fine too.) However, FIRE.TOS doesn't seem to work prope...

Re: window size and position

I think that demo was "Yepyha" by Toons: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=8584 It has several screens that do frequent resolution changes. Before Hatari had aspect-ratio scaling for Videl emulation (or supported SDL v2), it was impossible to view in fullscreen on my LCD monitor as that ...

Seems to work fine (-1 values for x & y position means that they shouldn't be modified): wmctrl -r "Hatari v2.1.0" -e 0,-1,-1,800,600 But how one could trigger something like that when Hatari starts, by using script that starts hatari, waits few secs and then runs wmctrl? I remember th...

Re: ZXR 0.1c (updated)

Ok. Looking at the (attached) profile assembly, "xx_im0" (which takes more cycles than "cmd_xx") is actually latter part of the "cmd_xx" subroutine, so looking at the whole indeed makes sense. :-) Btw. Have you looked at the callgraphs yet? Do e.g. calls to "cmd_xx...

Re: ZXR 0.1c (updated)

Thanks! I did a small profile of a game idling, reviewed the save profile assembly to see whether all RTS & RTE instructions (i.e. ends of subroutines) are followed by a symbol name for the code in next subroutine. At least code following sys_main() is missing one such symbol name. Here's the re...

Re: window size and position

SDL doesn't seem to have any environment variables that user could use to specify window position. Hatari doesn't currently specify window position to SDL, and for now it doesn't have any options to specify that either. If such options (e.g. "--win-x <x> --win-y <y>") would be added to Hat...

Re: Cross compiling on the PC for M680x0 and DSP56001

This is happily accepted by GEMDOS. But trying to add some debug output, it does not seem to be the case for asm56000, so there must be something else that prevents it from writing to the files in such emulations. Just recently I've asked about status of this bug in Hatari ML (see subject "asm...

Re: Profiler for gcc

I'd recommend using Hatari debugger's profiling functionality instead: * It doesn't have overhead like -pg has and it's more accurate (on ST/STE, cycle accurate as Hatari emulation for them is cycle accurate) * it can give much more information (callgraphs for instruction counts & cycle counts, ...
