Re: Atari ST core. Seeking beta testers

Well, you can make a testament where it is specified the source must be published if you die. Just kidding. "Are you insane? Some idiots will kill me to get the source!". Ah, you think so? Of course that all my sources are on my will ... encrypted ... with strong encryption ... and nobody...

Re: Atari ST Protection Techniques Special Edition

I don't have much time to analyze this right now. But yes, according to the protection check this would mean that the disk has (or at least that the protection expects) a physical alteration of the disk surface. This is not exactly a laser burnt. A laser burnt is very precise and it could be located...

Note that Atariage is a forum more specialized in the 8-bit. You will probably get more help there. Having said that ...

This is not an EPROM. It is a masked ROM with a different pinout. Most EPROM burners can't read masked ROMs. You might need to build a special adapter.

Re: Joystick testing thread

This is very specific to the core. Some arcades with joysticks using + in the case preventing diagonal move, but it's limited by few arcades. It's easy to implement inside the core and don't move this specific thing to ARM. MiSTer already provides good enough and independent from implementation fle...

Re: Atari ST core. Seeking beta testers

Sorry, I am receiving too many requests for participating at the beta. Honestly, I didn't expect so much demand. I am afraid I can't answer to everybody. Please bear with me, hopefully it won't be long before a public release. Not sure why need so much secrecy. Many cores are far from perfect which ...

Re: Joystick testing thread

I have idea to add menu option preventing simultaneous button presses to improve game experience. Have been implemented something like that? It might be a good idea. Some software might get confused if conflicting switches are asserted. It is of course possible to prevent the conflict at the core. ...

Re: simulation files for ddr3 memory

I think even MPFE is not required for simulation. VIP uses AvalonMM interface to access the memory. I'm not familiar with simulation, but i believe AvalonMM should be an essential part of simulation components. It depends on what he wants to simulate and for what purpose. It is really not clear at ...

Re: simulation files for ddr3 memory

Simulating Vip and the HPS is not a simple task at all and I wouldn't recommend it to somebody new at FPGA development. If you are not lazy, you might need to study the Cyclone V handbook. Check chapter 29: Simulating the HPS components. Note again that the FPGA side never accesses the DDR ram direc...

Please don't post the same question on multiple threads. It is considered bad manners and usually it doesn't help, it produces the opposite effect than the one you might seek.

Re: Game-Boot from B:

There is no foolproof solution without a hardware mod. Even a custom TOS won't work on every case because many games access the hardware directly bypassing TOS completely. It should be possible to implement a software solution that would work with well behaved programs, especially those booting from...

Re: Core porting questions

Just to clarify, the firmware code in MiST has special handling for the Minimig and AtariST cores ... MiSTer firmware was ported from it so there is still that special handling in there, just dormant until a core.asks for it. I know. But I am using a completely different interface than the original...

Re: Atari ST core. Seeking beta testers

The mouse I'm using (Logitech M325) moves extremely slowly and won't move in a straight horizontal or vertical line. It seems like it only moves diagonally. That makes it really tedious to use the GEM desktop. Yes, I have seen this myself. Need to check it. I know there are a few cosmetic issues. P...

Re: Core porting questions

MiSTer is developed with this option in mind. It's just not fully implemented yet. Actually, once core's features are set, there changes in MiSTer ini are rare. It's not a problem to fork MiSTer and then provide pull request time after time. The code for INI configuration is not the main issue. As ...

Re: Core porting questions

Currently only single boot.rom can be loaded at startup. Usually if some computer has different configs with roms, then all these roms are included in boot ROM and then using OSD options you can let the user to choose the config. Like it's done in ZX, Amstrad and many other cores. That is a good so...

Re: Minimig (Amiga) core discussion

Indeed that's the impression I've gotten as well, though the current version of Catweasel itself is FPGA based apparently. Indeed, but the FPGA at the Catweasel it's so tiny in relation. The FPGA at the MiSTer is about 60 times bigger than the one at the Catweasel. Just the fact that it's so seemin...

Re: Core porting questions

I have two questions: - Is there anyway to specify the name of an image to be loaded automatically on startup? Either by the user or by the core? I can see that MiSTer attempts to load a boot rom image that is probably designed for Arcade cores. But some platforms also need a ROM or BIOS, and someti...

Re: simulation files for ddr3 memory

Just be careful and remember that the interface gives you access to the whole DDR ram space. MiSTer has Linux configured to use the lower half of the 1GB only, and the upper half is reserved for the FPGA side. But there is no protection enforced and there is no automatic offset adjustment. If you at...

Please excuse my ignorance about the VDP and the Genesis hardware, but we are talking about swapping the order of writes only , and not actually swapping the data? Re: Custom HDMI video modes test

Anyway, it's wrong direction. Core should work with standard resolutions by default. For smooth scroll and VSYNC lock, there is a vsync_adjust option. If enabled and TV/Monitor supports it, then everything will be smooth like on original computer connected to CRT. If core will require special resol...

Re: Custom HDMI video modes test

Standard MiSTer API supports custom modes without limits. So, instead of special RBF, you can define parameters in MiSTer.ini file. I know, and that is great. But for this purpose, I thought that for the end user it might be easier just to load a special core instead of messing with the config file...

Custom HDMI video modes test

This is a custom HDMI video mode that I would like to use on the ST core. It is a slight modification of the standard 720x576 x50Hz mode. It works on all the monitors I tested, but this certainly doesn't mean it works on every single monitor or TV. I would like some feedback to see how much this is ...
