Note that on the STE, if you overclock MMU you also overclock GLUE.

Re: STE BOOSTER V1 32MHZ & FAST-TOS

Any "video card" we build will not access the ST RAM. It will have its own RAM. Having the GPU (Epson, FGPA, ...) drive its own ram is the best way to get fast video with a higher resolution. Making something that access the ST RAM would require it to interface between the GLUE/MMU and RA...

I found two other titles, Masque+ and Chimera. They all have exactly the same on-disk copy protection (didn't check the software side).

Re: Le Nécromancien / Ubisoft

I saw those "prot" comparisons too on each sector, as you say maybe it just worked by luck once Tsunoo saw that reading 3 times sector 8 resulted in reading the expected sector 8 with the correct checksum on the data to "decrypt" the 68000 opcode at the end of the protection. Lo...

Re: Le Nécromancien / Ubisoft

... as you say the software side might not be reliable on every ST because the protections uses several xbios(8) in a row to read sector 8 on track 79. But what if a different TOS versions had different timings ... It is more than that. I'm not really sure he knew what he was doing. When reading th...

Forget it.

Yes there were a couple of cables, but they were meant just for transfer or for 8-bit emulators, not for realtime usage. Besides, the SIO2SD will only understand 8-bit images. It can't handle MSA or ST images.

Re: Le Nécromancien / Ubisoft

Having extra sectors without data (11,12, even 255 is possible) can't really be counted as real sectors, it's just here to fool some of the less advanced disk copier softwares on the Atari ST I think this is just for the purpose of speeding the loading under TOS. It's the same, "extra header&q...

Re: Le Nécromancien / Ubisoft

Sorry for the delay, being busy lately ... track79.0.raw.zip Thanks, it was useful ... The RAW/STX conversion is not perfect, has some minor defects, but they are not relevant here. The STX image is good. It doesn't (didn't) run with Pasti because of a bug in the library. That was already fixed in m...

Re: [A]tari [G]ame [T]ools - 2D prototyping engine for STE

Indeed there "should" be two Shifter-MMU wakeups possible (and maybe four Shifter-GLUE with regards to resolution-changes). This might be hijacking the thread a bit - maybe we should continue separately :) I think the LOAD-wakeup (Shifter-MMU) would be the one responsible for either allow...

FWIW, the result of Paulo's research into this 4 pixel sync scroll was that: *) One offset (sorry, don't remember if it was -4 or -12) will always fail in WS1 *) The same offset will sometimes fail in WS3 In other wakestates all four offsets should work all the time. However, since this has been te...

Re: MFP / CPU clock ratio

We don't have precise idea of the electronic logic in the YM2149, but I doubt they multiplied per by 2, a simple flip-flop to divide clock by 2 would be enough to ensure the noise counter gets 125 KHz from the base 250 KHz for tone/env. May be, and I'm not very familiar with the chip internals to j...

Re: Le Nécromancien / Ubisoft

Get a "HALT" in Steem. It's a bug in the Pasti DLL. The RAW/STX conversion might be not perfect in addition, would need to double check it. But something is odd with the protection. The software protection by Tsunoo Rhilty seems to be very good. But the on disk copy protection is not well...

Re: Steem SSE 3.9 bug reports

The good news about the bad news is that it's easy to fix. Just wonder if I should. If you accelerate the CPU on an ST, doesn't the PSG accelerate too? Not that I know ; the CPU has 8 MHz from a base 32 MHz clock and the PSG has 2 MHz from this same 32 MHz clock, so speeding up the cpu clock should...

Re: Can anyone explain how the ST determines how much RAM it has on startup?

This does not explain how the TOS was totally fine with 3MB, whereas this configuration is even not possible with the hardware. I did not need any extra software to tell TOS that 1MB is missing. Somehow it did that by it's own. TOS is one thing, hardware limitation is another one. The MMU hardware ...

If I'm not mistaken there are still a few unused FPGA pins. So unless there is a board routing issue, it's a pity that it doesn't have some kind of expansion port.

But probably the source of an RSC editor, which does more or less what you might want, might be useful.

Re: Commercial games using sync scrolling

I'm surprised such a sync scroll ever made it into a commercial game. As described earlier in the thread, they're wasting enough scanlines to have been able to use a "regular" sync scroll instead - even a copy of the _very_ conservative 20 lines one from Enchanted Land. But did they know ...
