Re: 1040STF with Flash EEPROM upgrade crashes (random number of bombs) when running any program

P.S. I also tried a Lattice GAL16V8 (also programmed with WinCUPL, configured for ATF16V8), but with this one, nothing did boot. I don't know whether it's because it has PTD (product term disable) fuses which the ATF16V8 doesn't have according to datasheet and which Atmel WinCUPL thus doesn't gener...

1MB SIMM PCB for 1Mx1

Just want to show you my new 1MB Simms. :D I used the 1Mx1 chips from my MEGA STs. I now use 1Mx4 in my MEGA STs because of less power consumption. But i have no modification in my STE, so no problem with the power supply. Yellow is a great color. With the ceramic chips it look awesome! Next ...

Re: 1040STFM Halted CPU

Yes, I removed the LS05 to see if it may be the reset circuit at fault, the Halt remains low and the Reset circuit is working per expected. OK All Data and Address lines OK? If CPU make Halt because of any trouble with the ROMs, maybe a connection is broken. Did you made a cross check of Glue and M...

Have you already checked the reset circuit?

Re: Ticking sound from Falcon PSU

Regarding the second picture.
Yes, it is the 12V line.
The "short" is normal, because it is a coil and the resistance of a coil do not avaoid the multimeter to make beep noise.

Before changing more components you should check the PSU without the Falcon.

Re: My floppy drive can't read on my Atari 520STFM, but works fine on PC

If the drive works on a PC, the trouble may be caused by the 7406. I exchanged this IC on some Ataris with floppy drive trouble and almost it fixed the problem.

Re: Ticking sound from Falcon PSU

Ticking sound from PSU maybe is a shortcut between any of the voltage to ground. If 12V is unstable you should set the Focus on the 12V line. Maybe testing the PSU with some Resistors (for e.g. 470 Ohm 5W). If no ticking sound anymore, you should chck the Flacon board for shortcut. If ticking contin...

Re: What's this Falcon board?

It can only be used with 1Mb or 4Mb in the normal RAM slot. It offers 4Mb or 8Mb of "alt-RAM". What happens if you have 14mb in the normal ram slot? The Falcon Magnum needs a driver to work. I tried what happen if 14MB and Magnum is installed. As long as the Magnum driver is not loaded th...

Re: C103414-001 Atari STFM board to 4 MB upgrade.

We used TMS444000dj-80 DRAM's, but any type of 1Mx4 SOJ DRAM's can be used as long as they are not faster than 80 ns. We tried 60 ns DRAM's, that didn't work. I made the same years ago with 60ns and 70ns RAMs and it worked. My 4MB board for ST ist assembled with 70ns chips and never seen any proble...

Re: STE BAD RAM (not bad simms)

So at this point I would suggest caution to anyone fitting 9 chip RAMs into their STE.. With RAM problems hinting towards DMA problems also, with so many people adding 4MB RAM into their machines, a "bad DMA" could simply be a red herring for bad RAM. Maybe it will fix the problem if the ...

Btw. in my mega ST, REV.I.1 , factory 1MB RAM, no lines, pads for more RAM chips, only empty space on board (big) there are no those 2 74LS244 chips, but resistors as in any ST . They must be present only in models with more RAM by factory. Of course. MCU has to drive eight (actually only 4 at a ti...

Re: St-fm cpu overclock

The only way is with a wire wrap PLCC socket, where the socket the blitter goes in, simply has longer legs, that way it can have a socket on top of the pcb, and the pcb can solder into the motherboard. I dont know if you can actually get those anymore, and if they will actually fit in the pcb holes...

Re: Single Sided Drive on an STE - faulty or swapped?

I had a 520 STE myself (bought in Germany @ Schlichting Computer if anyone cares) but because I don't have the machine anymore I cannot tell what the sticker said for which country it was meant. It had german TOS and german manuals tho. And yes it was exactly the same as a 1040STE minus the RAM. I ...
