Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

Also, when you power-on the Falcon030, check that you have 5V on the VCC pin. Where is the VCC pin? The HD and FD have not been connected for all the testing. As noted above, I think, a falcon should boot without a anything in the vmram socket. But I am going to have to put a socket in anyway. So yo...

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

Patch is on post 4 of this thread on page 1. The piggy back IC says 9118AK 74FD4PC. I the loose wire, I think went from pin 2 to 15. pin 2 side was loose. That pic is not so good. It would have gone to pin 1, but pin 2 had solder on it so that is where I assumed it went. When I first got it, I boote...

Re: Geneva Installation

Yes, This is what i get. It gets worse if you want to add NeoDesk 4 into the mix, as they suggest you do. That's why I have asked a couple times over the years if someone would post a drive image of a complete working install. No takers yet. Though my disks appear to have been used in a previous lif...

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

Thanks! I have tested resistance on traces as shown on the schematics as best I could all seemed ok. I did find that a wire had come loose from the upgrade previously done. It was on the piggyback IC from pin 2 to 15. See post 4, above for a pic. I do not know how long it was disconnected , or if it...

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

Ok, Back to testing this Falcon. I have pulled out the VMRam chip. I used Tech Cleaner to clean out the reset switch as suggest above. But I do not know how to test it. Can I do it with a mutimeter? I did power it up after I 'cleaned' the reset switch. I still get a black screen. I tested with both ...

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

I have ask him for loans in the past, and he wants collateral. He wanted my 1450xld and falcon to barrow his only Atari PC1 manual so I could make copies. That is a bit steep for me. I have been busy this week at home, and am out of town this weekend, so it will be a few days before I can get back t...

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

I got the badge from Best. He had 5 left and left me choose the one I liked best. I work only a few blocks away from him. The others were very pastel in colors.

I will test the reset switch. It looks like it has had a lot of use.

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

Mikro, Lonny's dev-docs archive (look for Service Guide) Can't find. I probably should have, but I have not heard of this. Can you post a link? And here are a few pics of my good Falcon. Sorry for the bad pic quality. Also got a exxos psu in there. It really make a noticeable difference. Highly reco...

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

Yes live and learn, but possibly expensive lesson. Pulling Dallas tonight, and will try booting without it. I hope it boots. I will then put in a socket. Found Schematics, but they are hard to read. Also I am not at all good at reading them anyway. I pretty sure this is it, by looking on the MB and ...

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

Ya I'm a dope!! When I do something like this I think it will always work,'it's so simple' is in my mind. I do not think long term, like what happens if it dose not work.... I think 'It worked last time, so it will work this time'... Lesson now learned about sockets!! And I have so many sockets arou...

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

Thanks everyone for those great suggestions! Here are the results: SM124 is no joy. dark screen. no response. Nothing, not even blips on screen on power up I swapped out the 14mb upgrade to the other known working 14mb upgrade from the other falcon I have. Nothing. I do not have a oem 4mb board. I r...

Re: Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

wongck, that key combination did not work. Mikro, I'd rather not pull the dallas out just yet. Last resort, that will be. My soldering is ok, not PRO. But I checked with a magnifying glass and did not see any shorts from solder. I wiped with a IBA, and toothbrush. Could the Dallas be incompatible wi...

Falcon NO display after NVRam replacement

Hi all! I have a Falcon that I replaced the original NVram/RTC with a Dallas IC. I did the same thing a few months ago on another falcon with no problems. I got both dallas IC's at the same time a couple years ago. This current falcon booted before the upgrade. Now when I boot a get a message on my ...

Magafile Upgrade parts suggestions??

I have a MF30 with a dead drive. I have a working unit I tested with. So I know that Atari parts are working. I'd like to kind of stay retro with a spinning drive. But do not want to overdraw the hobby bank. I have read that there are 'host adapters' that might work with IDE drives. But I'm not quit...

Re: RETRO-BRITE...Best Process So Far

tuf, Great, it will work. NOTE: I do NOT use cling wrap. I highly suggest that you never use it! That is the major problem people are doing. It is one of the main reasons for the 'blotching' Give my method a try. I can almost guarantee that it will work if followed properly. Just put on an even coat...

Re: RETRO-BRITE...Best Process So Far

Here in California, USA, it is very difficult to get large qty of hydrogen peroxide in liquid form in that high a percentage. I think you need a license, and work at business that needs it. All we have at retail is 3% in 12oz bottles in the first aid section of a store. I think things are different ...

ozone is very slow, imo. My process works a bit faster, with more controlled results. And it is cheaper. If you have an Ozone generator please to a comparison. But I'll bet I can do about 150 cases for the cost of OZ generator.

RETRO-BRITE...Best Process So Far

I think figured it all out. I've been doing a lot of Retro-Brite on ST's, and many other cases this way. The all come out perfect! Here is what seems to work best and why. Please read all the way through. Get something called 'Developer' from a beauty supply store. The clerk/cashier/associate/sales-...
